I actually just emailed Toyota about this yesterday and also used the word "archaic." Much of the competition makes it pretty easy to order a car just the way you want it. Ford is easy. Audi is easy. BMW is easy. We have an Audi Q5 plug in hybrid on order, but supply chain issues have delayed it. Even with that- we are getting the exact car we want from the dealer we want. I recently called BMW to see about an X5 plug in hybrid and was told if I can build it online, I can have it in roughly 3 months. If more people complained to Toyota, perhaps they'd find a way to improve the buying experience.

Agreed. The fact that we need to place numerous deposits, study spreadsheets, compromise on builds and even have a thread dedicated to when (if) you will get your build in insane imo. But hey, they are selling their trucks and that's what matters to them. I'm sure my attitude will improve if I get an allocation haha!

Exactly. I'm doing all the stuff listed above just to have one more truck with a manual in it. I'm starting to question my sanity. By giving up that one item, it dramatically changes the pool of vehicles I could pick from to make my next vehicle, and the timeframe in which I'll have it. I wouldn't even have to go through this to buy a manual Gladiator. Pick it out, option it, send in the order, wait 2-3 months, have in driveway. There are the obvious price and quality differences, and with the instability of pretty much everything now, I'm just not willing to spend that kind of money or take that kind of risk on the quality.

I'm not at all a fan of the Gladiator, however, I will admit, it is looking pretty good right now given how hard it is getting to find a manual transmission Tacoma with the options I want.

I hear ya. I can build a Gladiator with exactly what I want and nothing I don't, and the dealers say no problem. Problem is, it's $10k more than the Tacoma I want. That makes me double back to what I said before. Apples to apples, the choice of a Tacoma seems easy. Make one easier to get than the other, and I get back to questioning just how far I'm willing to go for the ability to shift myself.

I'm trying to remember as I configured the two as close to apples-to-apples as I could a few weeks back and for my list of needs, wants, and desires, the Gladiator was only about $4,000 more expensive. I say "only" as in relative to your example; it is still a chunk of change which I could put to better use elsewhere.

If I could get them within $4,000 of each other, I'd be ordering the Gladiator right now. I can't seem to get it under $50,000 regardless of how I configure it, and I'm at about $40,000 give or take for a Tacoma. What really sucks is $50,000 won't even buy you a decent full size truck these days.

LOL, no, I categorically refuse to pay any dealer fees on principle. If that means I don't get a new vehicle, then so be it.

If I recall correctly, the Tacoma I built up a couple weeks back had an MSRP of $48,000 (and change) while the Gladiator had an MSRP of $52,000 (and change).

I took my Audi in to a dealer that I know very well and absolutely trust, and they have proven that trust time and time again. I am just getting two recalls done, but I have also received three different contacts from three different people associated with the dealership asking me if I wanted a free appraisal and to look for an upgrade.

The market is still vicious. Be careful.

Now, if only I could nab that allocation I've been waiting 3 1/2 months for...

If you want an MT ACLB Army Green with the fixings you may try Haddad Toyota in MA, they were willing to sell Out of State, got going with them before I thought they ghosted me, but then came out blasting again saying they figured out the MA problem after I bought a ‘19. I think they still have it

    here it is https://www.haddadtoyota.com/new/Toyota/2022-Toyota-Tacoma-eaaf183a0a0e09a8387fd5b2490a2f91.htm

It (at least was) on their lot in the flesh too - not an allocation

EDIT: looks like it got got now

Thanks, I'm looking for a DCSB TRD Sport with Premium and Advanced Tech in BCM with the 6MT. If something in black, red, or the while pearl color pops up with the same option specs, I'll probably bite.

Just got an update on mine via the vspec inspect web thingy....only the eta field has changed, from no info to currfromdate of 4/7 and currtodate of 4/12. My salesperson had said mid to late March but oh well. The other fields I've been watching (lastmilage (0), dealercategory (F)) have not changed.

I put a deposit on an allocated/built Tacoma (got the permanent VIN right away) about a month ago.

Bummed that it will be another month, but very happy to see SOME change to the info! All in all, might be 2 months from the first time I laid my eyes on the spec sheet to delivery (maybe sooner! hope springs eternal).

VSPEC never gave an ETA for my truck and my VIN just showed up on the "kissmygrits" spreadsheet the last time it was updated so I was pleasantly surprised when I received an email from my dealer that the truck is sitting on their lot now. Too bad I won't be able to pick it up for a couple of weeks. It does have a sold sticker in the windshield though.

In the big picture, are SR5s produced in higher numbers compared to the other trim levels? Ordered mine on 1/23 with a build date of 3/29 so far.
