Good to hear it's being done already.

We always will be dependent on natural recources. We can't make something from nothing. Emissions is what the big drive towards EV is but who knows when it comes to power generation and how much that emits. Nuclear seems like the way to go for that but everyone is afraid of it.

You mean downstream? Pretty sure people care when shit flows through there yard.

Most are saying now it's too late and all those little efforts by the individual don't do shit. Needs to be drastic changes by those that can make them to slow down the climate crisis.

It is! I need to fish more..

Absolutely, but unfortunately Chernobyl put a sour taste in everyone's mouth and it's tough to lobby for against oil and coal. Fukushima didn't help either, but we really do have better containment and safety these days, it is a more sustainable power source for sure.

very true. But be better to dependent on Hydrogen IMO as it's the single most abundant thing in the entire universe.

Nuclear would be great. Way better than all these fugly damn windmills which basically barely break even on the resources it costs to build and maintain them.

"Buy an electric car, stop using plastic straws!" The politician exclaimed and wagged his finger. The breeze flips his tie as he turns to board his private jet.
Upstream, talking about timelines not fluid mechanics

Well odd timing for everything but we had our twins two weeks ago now. A boy and a girl!

Course that then led us to realize a sedan was NOT going to work. Way to small. So kind of in a random drive to Cody to get some stuff, I happened to pass a 2004 Sequoia Limited. Stopped and it was actually in good shape. Talked to the wife and we ended up picking it up. For a good deal for both the current used vehicle market and everything that had been done to it. Pretty much brand new tires, new front struts, A/C system worked on, new front brakes, few other things. Only real issue was it needed new wiper blades, a new windshield, and has some chips in the paint.

-14 this morning...so yeah bit chilly lol.

For the money we paid for its definitely solid. One family owned and the dad definitely took care of it. Bit higher mileage at ~220k but the dad had tons of service records for it so not to worried on. Only real crap spot is the rear cargo area is a bit beat up from cargo going in and out.

Itll definitely be nicer to travel longer distances in with the kids and dog thats for sure!

220k miles isn't a thing as long as it's been taking care of, which sounds like it has.

Just enough to look kinda cool.
My mom has an 03 with 330k and it’s darn near bulletproof and still runs like a top. That motor with good service records will run forever.

I barley battery and eye at the milage when I saw it had been taken care of. Still plenty of life left in it. Even the more "consumable" sruff like ball joints, cv axle boots, ect all looked in great shape.

Really only work ill do to it is a fluid change. Oil is fine but im sure the differentials, transfer case, and transmission are due. Transmission probably the most since they did too with it and in sure it has the same crappy fluid change schedule as the trucks

The sun always helps! And no wind! Just been crazy weather. Went from -15 or more in billings two weeks ago for the birth of the twins, came home and it got up to 60, now back to snow and negative temps only for it now to head back to the 50s lol

That's pretty cool but I suspect it may have clearance issues in the trail lol. I still want to reach some interesting places and drive faster than 55. We are no longer searching for a van though. :spy:

Someone was importing then into Sun Valley. I swear we see a couple of them cruising around over there every time we are that way.

I know the guy who imports them if your interested, little 4x4 turbo diesel could be killer on the trail.

    Well, DV beat me again.

Short story (because, only made it through 1 day of the trip): We went down to explore the South Parth - Pleasant Canyon loop, since I felt like we rushed it a bit in December with Mike, Monte and Zane. Drove up South Park this time (and took a better line than on the way down, thank you very much Monte ;)) and had a great time exploring all the mines, side roads, etc. all the way to Rogers Pass. Starting down into Pleasant Canyon at dusk, I hear this clunking/clanking noise that seems to be coming from the front, feels like the front diff dropping down and hitting the skid. I get out and look; everything seems to be OK.

For shits and giggles, I go look at the rear end. No bueno.

    upload_2022-3-13_21-10-20.jpg

Main leaf, broken. Gravity is essentially keeping the truck resting on the remainder of the leaf pack. Thank goodness the rest of the Alcan leafs held strong and extended to within an inch of the front eye.

Luckily, I happened to be less than a quarter mile to that last cabin we saw in the trees as we were going up Pleasant Canyon in December; I knew it was flat there so I risked the descent and made it.

On flat ground, did some evaluation and thinking. There wasn't much to do except to try to keep it all from falling apart, so I used some ratchet straps to keep the rear axle in position (as far forward as possible) before we went to bed. As you can imagine, I slept "wonderfully."

    upload_2022-3-13_21-17-58.jpg

We'd take our chances the next morning on the descent to Ballarat and then to ... somewhere? to find a trailer. At least I already knew that a 1st gen fits on a U-Haul Auto Trailer.

That's not the whole story, but it's enough that y'all get the drift I think. And several of you will enjoy (or at least consider) thinking about the location.

Ha nice. Didn't you also already have a set of new leafs just laying in the garage? Weren't they high on the list given the other side has a cracked leaf?

    :p

Fun stuff though. Now you and Mike can bond over the terribleness of towing a 1st gen via u-haul hahaha
