*** EDIT just realized they have not shipped pre-orders yet ***

Unfortunately, it looks like I "need" to install a snorkel.
Even post-fender liner install the air box is always a mess after playing off road.

Who has some miles on the new upTake model and what are your initial after use opinions? https://www.uptopoverland.com/products/uptake-tacoma-2016-2021 MPG, HP gains or loss, overall air filter cleanliness after substantial mud or dusty travel etc?

Expensive for sure, but I guess it looks better than the majority of the other options out there IMHO.

I've been using the airaid snorkel that uses stock roof top bolt locations. I've seen a steady increase in mpg.

Doubt that info helps you at all though bud

I mean, I can't help you with any sort of review because I haven't handled one, but I agree with you that I think they look better than the classic design (although I saw someone point out a comparison between it and a soldier saluting and now I can't unsee it). Another option would be a carbon fiber one, I think Alpha was the brand, it looks much more low profile than these other options.

I do like the color matched plates on the upTop model, as well as being able to open up the box on the side to clean it out and assist with mounting. Probably the nicest option out there and I was considering taking them up on their rather substantial Black Friday savings, but I got a few other things I need to pick up first and don't really need one right now; and I want to hear some reviews eventually as well

I actually can’t stand the look of any snorkel. But my last few off road adventures have made it apparent that I need one. I have seen the low profile one you mentioned. But the carbon fiber was kind of Fast & Furious IMHO. Maybe I’ll do the cowl induction mod…

It's true, in bad rains yes. The sy klone pre filters sort that issue. My new issue is the shape of my snorkel doesn't accomodate one said pre filter lol.

I will say that it directly mounted to my s and b air box though! It made it less noisy and my fuel economy now averages 17 to 20. That's with a big ole 270 awning on the side, above the roofline too

    That's a beauty!

Less bulky in length compared to others I have seen. I'm not likely to add this accessory but it does make for good conversation...for/against.

Got my UpTake. Afraid to install it. Anyone have any experience with theirs installed yet?

I was at the UpTOP shop the other day, and saw a guy start his truck with the UpTake installed. The UpTake made a sipping sound, asking for air, when the truck started.

This makes me wonder how the snorkel might affect performance on a Supercharged engine? At idle/startup, the snorkel is causing enough airflow restriction to make sucking noises upon initially ingesting air. My stock air box does not cause this same noise each time I start the truck. It could be nothing and just be another cool noise my truck makes. Or it could be restricting airflow and hurt performance on an FI engine. The angles are pretty aggressive compared to other snorkels on the market. The down shaft is also pretty slender. I don't think any dyno work was done during the design process for this snorkel, but keep me honest @upTOPoverland

Can anyone out there speak to performance (with or without the Magnuson SC installed) before and after installing the UpTake?

Am I in the minority here that thinks snorkels look absolutely ridiculous? I know, clean air and water crossings and all that jazz....but cmon, really? Other than raptor lights, snorkels have to be the most brolander modification one can make to their rig.

Unfortunately it will most likely be a low production item, so they have to recoup R&D costs somehow.

Thankfully we live in a free country and can decide to simply not buy something if you don't like the price. I have bought all sorts of accessories where there were cheaper options available. If something has enough perceived value to somebody, they will buy it.

I already have mine installed with a supercharger. To each their own...I make good money and this is just another hobby, so I like to support American businesses when they try to provide something out of the box and unique (the snuffle was also only $600 on sale). I'm not sure what all the concern is on air intake really. If anyone spent time in the fender where the stock intake opens too, you would see that the fender itself is basically sealed off except for THREE slots (2-3 inches wide) towards the front of the plastic liner. So in other words you weren't getting direct air intake. Just my observation from the install itself. Also, the comment about rain and all that, the box that goes on the fender is an access, what you will see is that the tube is very high to allow for debris and anything else to sit below the line, not to mention the air box itself. I am seriously considering a cutout prefilter on the intake (hand portion) lol. So far, I will say this.....I still have a very, very enjoyable ride when I punch the skinny pedal, my gas mileage has definitely gone up, but I'm not sure why (could be better fuel). summer blend. I'm very happy with it and the install was actually not that bad! It is by far the best looking one out there and it's actually pretty discreet.

Follow up to this thread, I'm not a daily driver, so I can't say that this has improved or taken away from the overall performance of the engine. My previous response was obviously about basic cost and perceived need. But for the sake of the OP, I did do a unscientific test of driving with the box cover on and off. I have to admit there is a difference. So, with that said, I will try to post up some vids to share.

Curious what that difference would be? If by "box cover" you mean the outer color matched cover? I haven't dug into my kit or watched the install video all the way through, so maybe this is a dumb question... but isn't the tubing sealed from the roofline intake into the engine air box? Why would the outer box cover make any difference then? Appreciate the content here either way, as I am still on the fence about this install.

I hear you. I did a very short video showing what may be the issue. I'm not sure so don't quote me. I need a boost gauge to truly know. There is someone else looking into it also. I hope we'll have data to back this...it's currently just my driving feel since it's not a daily driver for me. But, I did a long drive today and tried it out both ways (with cover and without).
