I guess it depends on what you want to replace it with and can you wait for the replacement. You should pRice out at what you want and see how much more you would need to add. Remember the sales tax too.

    Oh look, another mod....
Is it paid off? If so, I'd keep it. 100k miles is nothing. If you love it a little bit and take care of it, you'll get another 150k miles out of...with ease. Drive it for another 5yrs, maybe by THEN, prices won't be so out of control.

    Dang!

My wife has a 2017 Elantra (purchased new) and doesn't even have 40K miles on it. She paid it off in Dec 2021.

So, are you bored/tired of driving your truck?

Do you feel like you need a new truck?

Just curious as to why you are contemplating a new truck.

see what a dealer will give you then decide. remember you will not pay sales tax on the trade in $ portion of the deal.

At 100K miles, if they offer enough to make it worthwhile then there really isn't a downside IF the price of the new one isn't stupid.

    Not bored. Love this truck.

Thought about getting a new one just to reset the mileage. My trim level and options is priced at $43-45k. Figured trading it in would offset that cost. I got my truck for $31k with those options.

My litmus test is always on the debt component. If this change will put you back into serious debt for no real good reason then I personally would stick with what you have. Now if your current truck has known issues that will be expensive to repair or replace, then that is another story. But again, just be mindful of the debt you will be taking on when making this decision.

Keep it, but put aside $350-400 per month as IF you were paying a truck payment into a savings account. That way if it comes time where you want to sell it, or have a major repair bill, you'll have a decent amount of money to take care of the costs.

Oh....so are you concerned about the truck having 100K+ miles on it?

With a new design coming out within another year or two...or three, maybe that's what's on your mind?

I had my 2003 Honda Pilot the first year it came out...in 2002. I added lots of things to it and reached over 200K miles. I was planning on having it forever.

Then some lady ran into my driver's side wheel and basically my Pilot was totaled.

For a while, I wanted another Pilot...couldn't get it off my mind. But I had a limit of $10K to spend...something I just wanted to do.

All the Pilots with 100K miles were over $13K until I found a 2010 Mazda CX-9 for the exact amount. Good timing for sure!

I still saw plenty of Pilots and slowly started to move on with thinking about another vehicle.

Before & After we refinanced our mortgage, I told my wife I wanted a truck. "What kind", she asked? "TUNDRA!"

After having a brief discussion, I moved down in size to the Tacoma. I think she's regretted letting me buy the truck...lol!

So, if you're read this far, thanks!

I'm sure you'll make a decision and have your own story to tell.

If you're on the fence to trade it in, now is the absolute best time to do it. I did the same thing with my 16 4R with 85,000 miles that I essentially broke even on. Purchased a 19 TRDOR with 18,000 miles last year and didn't look back. YMMV

One caveat though, while trade in values are higher than ever, the replacement costs are also exorbitant.

While the trade value looks tempting remember this. When you bought it, dealers were coming off sticker by $3000-$15,000 depending on the truck. If you buy a new one some dealers are getting sticker plus $10,000-$15,000. It won't hurt to ask. Some are getting them at sticker or only slightly over.

I started doing this in the late 90's and I haven't had a car loan since.
I would never buy a single mod for the truck until I fully paid off the loan. (I can't stand interest payments)
Since the truck is paid off keep it!
This is you chance to get ahead of the game! Break the cycle of interest payments!
    Good Luck!

Maybe consider seeing what the car dealer will offer first? Then see what the Tacoma truck market is asking?
Here in Hawaii.. Some people on Craigslist list people selling for the almost the same prices they brought it for..?
Trade in ..maybe less problems? Be ware of meeting buyers? To show the truck meet at populated spots ..like a supermarket, shopping center, where lots of people around… never at home…
    Aloha
