What's left of the tread is delaminating from tire carcass and your asking if it is good. It wouldn't leave my driveway in that state.

    Buy one new tire.

When the other 3 are ready to replace, buy 4, and use the one you just bought as a spare, as it will still be very good.

You referenced OCD. Attention to detail is not the same as OCD, which can be debilitating. If you truly are OCD, find a good Dr. to help you deal with it.

From what I see in the picture, I would agree. It looks cosmetic. Tires are a sandwich of materials. The strength of the tire comes from the cords. Similar to rebar in concrete. When the body cords break or are cut, that is where you will have a problem. It could start as a bubble on the sidewall, but it will expand. In truck tires with steel body cords they call them zippers when they let go.

Mental note: Avoid driving in the USA when roads are wet or snow covered. Used to work in a Michelin tire manufacturing plant and that tire is toast.

What's the point in acting all high and mighty? Because you think your opinion on some grainy ass internet picture is better than mine? I just gave my 2 cents. There are no chords showing and the chunk is out of a thick piece of sidewall with tread. I would feel totally comfortable driving that around town.

You might be able to buy a used tire to replace that one. I did that once on my old truck.. The manufacture changed the AT sidewall right after I bought them new..Could not find one locally..Found a used tire on ebay that was a perfect match and also had about 15000 miles on it for less than $100 shipped to my front door... No problems, it is still in service and will last another 2 years..

Nothing high and mighty about it; just that your logic does not make sense brother! You state you would be comfortable doing 45 mph with that tire, but not 55 or more on the highway? That makes no sense man. You can do a lot of damage with a blowout at 45 mph.

You have your risk tolerance and I have mine. My family's safety is my highest priority and there is no way in hell I would let my wife drive off in a car with a damaged tire like that. But you do you brother, you do you!

I would in a pinch but not at high speeds. I would replace it. Couple hundred dollars is not worth dying over.

Exactly how does working at a plant make you an expert? Even more so working at a Michelin plant where there are about 5 workers because almost the entire process is automated.

Considering they don't have shoes, I guess regrooving a tire isn't exactly shocking. I wouldn't arm wrestle one of those bitches. If they can rip through a tire like it is butter, they are seriously strong. In the truck business where they actually have tires that can be regrooved, they use a hot knife because that rubber is dense.

Far from an expert but people that work at places where stuff is made sometimes pick up useful information about the stuff even if they sweep the floors, work in R&D or anything in between. If that little bit of info helps prevent someone from getting injured or worse I will gladly express it.
