I get that he's taking in more dust and rain by facing it forward.

A snorkel being higher up means it picks up less dust than a stock airbox that is at engine bay level.

A backwards facing scoop also doesn't get the benefit of having ram air either and will be less efficient. A backwards facing scoop has to pull in air that is going by making it less efficient and also making the engine having to work harder to get air.

Also the stock intake pulls a lot of its air from near the wheel well which is brutal in dust (I was going thru air filters every 6-7k km) and can actually lead to hydro locking if you hit a shallow puddle a little too fast and have water blow into it. Rare, but does happen.

Small little mod, more of an art project if you will. Painted my factory front strap hook red.

So you'll be ramming dust in there cuz a 2 to 3 foot height increase is not gonna get you out of that dust zone.
Seems like a waste of $400-$600 to me.....but hey "to each his own"

I planned on doing that this weekend along with the drivers eye loop. Color match looks spot on…what product did you use (brand/color) and did you prime the hook before?

Ah yes, because everyone else in the world including the manufacturers are all wrong and only you are right.

Of course they'd never think of dust and rain when designing them. I'm sure the guys at ARB are full of shit :

so I don’t have any spray paint which would be way easier and had some oil based paint in the garage and was shocked how spot on it was. I ended up brushing it. Color is Rust-oleum Gloss Regal Red 7765. I didn’t prime it. Should have but don’t care all that much.

Yeah it’s not too bad. The run down the doors join in the cab then out to the driver’s light so it works with the drl settings.

It’s something I’ve wanted to do to get rid of the chrome signals, just not experienced with wiring

Amazed at something so simple can be so useful. Paracord grab handles because Toyota was too cheap to add any sort of handle for rear seat folks on the b pillar.

One of the many examples these days how much I appreciate my 4th gen 4Runner. 220,000 miles and still mechanically purring without any major issue - other than most of the roof clearcoat faded from the brutal Colorado sun raining down in it for most of its 17 years being parked outside…

Hmm, I'm 6'1" and haven't run into that problem, pun intended.
