I do take it off-roading, and would feel much better had I scratched them myself while doing so. My problem is, I didn’t scratch them. Took them to DT In the boxes. Brand spankin new, paid good money for a set of tires from them, and left with scratched wheels. It’s more of the principle.

I did the exact same thing. New FN wheels in their shipping boxes where I had Discount Tire move my original tires and sensors to the new wheels, mount and balance.

When they pulled my car in I walked over and said hello to the tech doing the work. I discreetly handed him a $20 and thanked him for taking extra care. The result was flawless. Not a mark...or even a finger print.

Sometimes a bit of appreciation goes a long way. Sets you apart from all the a-holes they deal with all day long.

    UPDATE:
So I went to DT this morning, told them very respectfully that my wheels were scratched during installation. The manager or assistant manager was very kind, and offered me three options. They would get the scratches repaired at no cost to me, try to find wheels to replace the ones scratched the worst, or 300$ back. I went with the money back. Very happy with the outcome. Thanks for all the advice!!

My initial reaction is that your wheels will spend their entire life getting the absolute shit beat out of them and that a few small scratches are nothing to get all worked up over. But after seeing the pictures and given that they are brand spanking new wheels, I can see why you would be a bit upset. As other have said, have a polite and rational conversation with them and see what they say.

DT is a chop shop filled with high school drop outs. You have to be specific and coach them, or they will just speed through installs and continue to dick up wheels.

I have used Discount for years and they have been nothing but excellent high school drop outs.

yeah, because balancing tires for a living is rocket surgery. DT has dicked up three sets of my wheels at three different So Cal locations and countless others on these forums.

One of the biggest mistakes I saw techs make was front coning instead of back coning and not using the protective cup on the spindle nut with the rubber protector on it. Most rims even have a bevel on the back to accommodate this. Not sure about the FN 5s though. BUT, I think what happened here was they threw the wheel asy on the wheel balancer shaft not so carefully and didn't get it all the way on the cone before sliding the spindle nut on. Those tire carrying/ lifting things are almost a necessity for larger wheels.
