Driving 60MPH on limited access highways in New England risks being pulled over for drunk driving. No sober person drives that slowly.

Still the OP's point is accurate. The other thing that helps is driving at a steady speed on the highway. In theory, driving with a steady engine RPM works better, bt that's usually not practical.

Yup. 55-61 is the sweet spot for fuel economy in these trucks. And most vehicles.

I commuted 29 miles each way to my job for some 25 years. 20 miles open interstate + 7 miles stop & go interstate + 2 miles on local roads.
I used to be one of those impatient lane-changing a$$holes. It took anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour each way. When I first started using a spreadsheet for work I put together one for my driving segments to compare total time vs various cruising speeds. The only stretch that made a difference was the 20 mile interstate. Cruising at 75 vs cruising at 60 mph I'd shave off 4 minutes for the total travel time. Finally decided it wasn't worth the aggravation for the 4 minutes saved. Age factors into the equation as well. Now I'm content to set cruise for 68 mph and let the impatient a$$holes go flying by. Noticed that many times one of those a$$holes would be sitting at the stop sign or light at end of the exit ramp as I was pulling off. I get to where I'm going at a reasonable pace and with much less wear & tear on my psyche.

Driving the Mass Pike east into downtown Boston during morning rush hour is one of those places where you're moving bumper-to-bumper at 60-75 mph (on a good day).
Not for the faint of heart.

I am pulling my little trailer, headed to watch a niece play softball and visit friends in Texas. Running 60-65, I was getting 17 and 16 mpg with a side wind until I turned into a 10-15 (up to 20) mph head wind, then 14 mpg. So far gas prices are not too bad.

I also have my mountain bike mounted after the truck.

Ok, Thanks. Because of the bright sunlight though, the colors appear way brighter than they really are. But I wanted something that brought some brightness to an otherwise black and dull interior, and which also complimented the exterior color.

Thank you! You won't believe how many compliments I get, just from stopping at various Costco's and leaving my door open while I am filling up with gas. And of course, whenever I used to take it to the dealer for the free maintenance before it ran out, well, all the service guys would run over and take pics and videos of the interior. Kinda' makes ya feel good, ya know?

My apologies...I'm just breaking some balls on a slow Friday at work! You do you. If you like it, I'm happy for you. You may not like what I've done to my truck.

Hey man some people just want their truck's interior to resemble a '94 Lexus ES300 + a carpet dash pad

I've seen 29mpg on a cross country trip before as well. Full tank of gas to empty, all highway at a consistent speed. I typically get low to mid 20's when driving sanely and obeying the speed limit on the highway getting to and from my fishing spots. Highway speed limits in Canada are typically 100 - 110 km/h (60ish mph in freedom units). Much worse mileage in town.

I am mostly stock. In summer I run TRD beadlocks with stock wranglers, TRD skid and a diamondback.

I find 70 to be a reasonable compromise. I can get a little better fuel mileage at 60, ( the old 55 mph national speed limit imposed in the 1970's did in fact work). But the difference at 70 isn't terrible. Maybe a fraction of 1 mpg. But above 70 it drops like a rock. I get where I'm going soon enough at 70.

That MIGHT be relevant on a small econobox car that gets 40 MPG. But the biggest mpg killer on trucks is the poor aerodynamics. Many cars can zip along at 80 mph and not see a huge impact on fuel mileage, but above 60-70 will kill trucks and most SUV's Adding weight is pretty far down the list.

Stock, 4x4 with automatic I routinely get 23m.p.g. (unless towing) for which, I've been mostly, called a liar... whatever... but then, I drive conservatively.

I like that trailer. I've been wanting something similar. Is it something you made or can I buy one somewhere?
