Fox 2.0 front leveling struts

Just had these installed with 255/80/r17 nittos today. Ride seems to be super stiff and extremely bouncy over the smallest bump.

Talk to me like I'm stupid here. I've never driven anything lifted. I'd assume it would take a bit for the struts to settle down but anything else?

I have them on my first gen and they’re stiff. Personally I don’t mind because the trucks always rode rough but now I can go around winding roads without slowing down too much. The Fox 2.0’s are a more stiff coilover compared to other brands

 

Are your tires E load?

What are your center of hub to fender measurements? Want to stay below 23” for cv angles.

 

I think every 255/80/17 I have seen is E rated.

They're about 24 1/2"

 

Seems like a 3.5" lift. Factory height, center of hub straight up to edge of fender should be around 21" on short beds and 20.5" on long beds. Take a pic of your CV axels with wheel straight I bet your boots are rubbing together which will cause them to wear through and fail. Not sure what the issue is (wrong parts sent etc) but that is WAY more than 2" lift and might explain the harshness (E-load tires are stiff on Tacos and 4runners anyway but correct suspension makes it less bone jarring).

 

That does look like a little more than 2 inches in the front, and the Fox 2.0 fronts are known to realistically give the 3rd Gens 1-1.5”.

I’d ignore everyone talking about your E-load tires because I bet you have little to no down travel and that is what’s heavily contributing to your harsh ride experience.

edit: actually, based off the first description of your ride quality, I guarantee you are suffering from limited down travel.

 

post up some photos of the installed front suspension components, that might help with diagnosing what could be wrong.

 

Did you lower the rear? Looks like an ass dragger. Hopefully you had it aligned.

 

Thats more than 2" there, plus you are squatting. Your front is probably pre-loaded too much and it is giving it a rough ride. Your going to have a stiff ride from the tires if they are E load too. I have Skinny E's and when I went from 4ply to 10 it was a huge difference in ride quality in a neg way.

But its a truck.

 

Shop is wanting to add a 1.5 inch spacer in the rear. But I'm afraid ride quality will suffer more. Will take pics when I get home

 

My guess is similar to the others.

The lift is too high, meaning the springs are too compressed (preloaded), your tires are E rated, and I'd bet over inflated.

Get the lift down to 2-2.5", do a chalk test to select a good pressure for your tires. Your ride will still be truck like, but better. And your CVs will thank you. And you likely won't need anything in the rear.

 

“Super stiff and bouncy”…sounds like click 25 and click 1 on my king adjusters.

 

You called your top of line off road racing shocks “leveling struts”. Uff da.

On a more serious note, your harsh ride is likely caused by your new tires. How much air pressure are you running in them?
