You should pick up a sales career. commissions and bonuses are par for the course. And those of us that pick up bonuses are still peasants compared to the corp execs we work for.

You're in a place in your life where you're completely comfortable with the way things are going, and you're old enough/wealthy enough to look down upon the poors with your paid off house. I really want to watch it burn down. and It's going to burn down, and I'm a paper millionaire.

I think we need to be careful with assumptions here. I'm not trying to look down on anyone, firstly, I'm just trying to educate and discuss.

I genuinely wonder if the 'burn it down' crowd knows what they're asking for. Did you think 2008 and the early COVID days were awesome? Because 'burn it down' is way way way worse. Life in Somalia or Venezuela is pretty bad and that's what 'burn it down' looks like.

I 100% agree that there are some serious issues with corruption, lack of enforcement/regulation, and conflict of interest within the US financial system. But recessions literally kill:

    https://news.yale.edu/2002/05/23/ri...r-death-rates-new-study-yale-researcher-shows

Now, to be clear: I'm not taking a position for or against anything here. I'm just pointing out that the SP500s numbers have been pretty good lately as reasoning *why* I think it turns around in the mid-3000s at lowest.

I’ve been one of the poors. I grew up poor enough that we had Christmas’ (plural) with only a few gifts from the thrift store (all used). I’ve suffered the embarrassment of a classmate recognizing that I was wearing their old clothes that were donated. I tried to go into the navy, failing the physical the day after my 18th birthday, as it turns out because of a “feel sorry for us”’ lie my mother had made up 11 years earlier, that I repeated to the doctor. I’ve had to sleep in in my car for a couple weeks after being evicted as a young adult. I worked hard and clawed my way to the paid off house/zero debt, and almost a paper millionaire. So I get both ends of this, mostly that many people are poor because they continue to make bad choices.

If I hadn’t/didn’t take care of my parents over the past 15 years, I’d be that paper thing you mentioned. Sorry if this sounds like a rant. It is personal for me. And I rarely share some of the details I just did.

In closing I’ll say there is so much opportunity in this country that nearly anyone that chooses to do what it takes to escape poverty, can. I realize some have a mental or physical disability that makes their path harder or sometimes impossible, but that really is the minority of the so called poors.

We can say anyone can do it, but it’s not true. Our system doesn’t work without a big population of people barely getting by.

The two statements aren’t mutually exclusive. It is about choices. Most poor people aren’t willing to give up cigarettes, alcohol, drugs, having kids too early, or the other things keeping them in poverty. The system would change if it had to. It doesn’t.

Change? How would it change? If everyone pulled up their bootstraps and went for it, there wouldn’t be enough good jobs anyway. If everyone saved and invested to retire at 55 with 2 million, it would cost $100 for a happy meal and 2 million wouldn’t be worth anything. The system is designed and relies on some people being poor and staying poor. Doesn’t work any other way. And if all those people decided they don’t want to do those low paying jobs nobody else wants to do, the entire system fails.

We are well on our way to a $100 happy meal. But to respond, if those jobs weren’t filled, the rates would go up, and someone would still work them. The system exists because of human nature, not in spite of it.

Yes, the rates would go up and so would cost of everything else, and they’d still be the same poverty level jobs. That’s the only way any of this works.

Go watch that silly Justin Timberlake movie about time being currency.

And happy meals are still under $5 here, not a bad deal for happy kids on a road trip
