I'm paying $366 a month for my 2010 right now financed over 60 months. I plan to pay it off at 36 months though. Can't wait till then. There's no other feeling like paying a vehicle off....well, maybe buying a new vehicle, of course. lol

I went from my $190/mo on my shitty '04 Nissan Altima to $650/mo on my Tacoma. That on top of my mortgage is financially strenuous at times, but I don't regret it one bit.

basically a 2010 crew cab trd sport (4x4) w/tow pkg, no prerunners up here. Incl block heater, winter tyres on rims (17s), heated seats, 5/100K ECP and something else, cant remember what it was, cant be too significant. Final price was $44500
Tacomas are ballz pricey here and they dont negotiate much. I wanted to import but toyota dealers along the border said they couldnt sell new to me. I just bit the bullet and bought one. I tried for 0% financing but no go.

I paid about 780 for mine for the first couple months before I paid it off. 24 month note and bought it on a sunday.. couldn't talk to my bank.. but hey, 2% interest. I barely felt like paying it off.

Never get a car on a payment plan if possible, and not one for over the length of the STANDARD warranty.

If you can't afford it you can't afford it. PERIOD.

IT saddens me to see people talking about their monthly plans like its just a monthly cost they'll always have. Stay in your means.

I pay $454 for mine, and that's enough. I could afford more but wouldn't be comfortable with it. This way, if I get hurt at work, I can still make payments with what I have in my account, for a while...

    I hear ya fellow Canadian!
I shopped for a used Taco for over 6 months, (couldn't/wouldn't buy new). Finally had to drive 4 hours for an 05 with 120k...just under 19 grand...cash. Lots of extras too, so I'm happy.
Stealerships won't negotiate around here on tacomas; I offered 19k on an 08 dbl cab SR5 that was pretty beat and they wouldn't budge. Its still on their lot for 23, 2 months later.
I read once that it is wise to mention you want low monthly payments initially...then get something in writing about the price. dealers want to finance over long periods; that's where they make the most $...then, once you have an acceptable price on paper, you can "change your mind" and pay cash. Now they have to give the price that was quoted in writing. Never tried this, (as I refuse to buy new) but supposedly it works...
As for the payments, $0 per month. Couldn't afford more...(single dad)!:)

Actually you tell them you are not concerned with payments. Only the final cost of the truck and you want the lowest cost (You should already know what that is) Then when they come back with $700 for 84 months on the payments which payoff the truck cost they quoted you don;t flinch. When you get in the F & I office you pay it off...or you sign everything and insure there is no early payoff penalty and pay it off in a week or two.

EVEN WITH LOW INTEREST RATES OF 2% YOU WILL BE PAYING $50 a month until you pay it off....IF you are earning more than that on the banked money (ie has to be over 3% to break even) stay on the payment plan. If the money used to pay it off is at risk (ie Stocks) PAy the car off instead and make payments to yourself in a Stock account and avg back in.

Wow! Some of your other Canadian brothers chimed in and said the same, that is ridiculous, you need to have an American buddy buy it and sell it private party to you (again, I don't what sort of duties and taxes would be owed, but man thats expensive).

I've been following this for a while and it seems that the Canadian trucks are priced about $8000 more for the exact same configuration as they are in the States .

With our dollar valued at more than the US greenback , it's simply a price gouge .

Thats what gets me, with the Loonies being worth more, you are actually paying probably about $10k more, just robbery!

What is a Looney really though, is it like a quarter or silver dollar?

    It's a $1 coin , it's gold colour , not silver . We don't have $1 or $2 bills anymore .

    LOL
    its LOONIE,
a gold"ish" coloured coin worth a buck, with a picture of a common loon on it.
I looked into importing as well, but with the amount of hoops you need to jump through, it is only worth it if you are buying a really expensive luxury model...usually.
I could have saved maybe 2 grand importing a used one, so for me, it wasn't worth it. But it did take a loonng time to find what i wanted. Now I am still trying to sell my old truck; a 2000 mazda b4000, loaded, 250k kms. I wanted a tacoma when I bought the mazda 9 years ago, but at the time it was 10 grand more! Funny thing is, it is still that way today. I could have gotten a brand new bseries for the same $ as my 05 taco. The mazda was a great truck for me...but I sure love my "new" tacoma...(except for the gas it drinks)

Wait... what country are you from? are you talking pounds sterling?

Cause the CD is still below the US dollar, though close enough where I'd swap you a us20 for a cd20 and only lose 28 cents.
