Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...

did they state if they were using any skids? i'm running the ATO skid and even the nipple from the fumoto is above the skid. a piece of brush would have to strategically stick itself into the ~3" hole and then unlock and pull down the lever to open it. i've been using mone for probably 20k and offroading w/o any issue, but the skids do help.

That's why I haven't installed mine yet. Even though it has that little spring to keep in place. I am thinking about selling mine.

The 5/8 spring/hose clamps are cheap at Lowes. They come in a two pack for less than $5.

He's got a TRD Off Road. No idea if he's got anything other than stock skids.

That's good to know. I haven't found one locally anywhere (without requiring a special order). Even H depot doesn't carry them. And I was just at Lowe's yesterday! I guess next time I'm down there, I'll swing in and pick it up.

Aah, good old fumoto! I used to have this in my old motorcycle.

You may want to consider drilling a small hole on the valve lever and zip tying that sucker closed. Last thing you want is some unexpected dirt on the underside to hit the valve and empty your oil in minutes.

I'm about to order one of these and want to double check the size required. Do I need the F103? 12mm-1.25

Just a little bit further than the drain plug. If you do something to damage it you've done something. Drain plug or Fumoto doesn't matter.

I have one on my TRD Sport. I did not like how exposed the drain valve was with only the forward skid plate so I picked up the offroad skid that goes below the engine. The opening on the offroad skid plate is small enough to provide decent protection if you don't off road. I had one on my wife's 2006 RAV4 and it opened while driving down the freeway. The valve was not shielded from road debris at all on the RAV. She hit a chunk of tire tread which opened the valve. Fortunately she arrived at her destination before all the oil drained out and the engine was not damaged. On the Tacoma, with an adequate skid plate and the lock ring, you should be ok.

its almost flush with the skid plate...i dont do any offroading just construction sites mostly..so a zip tie might be a good safe idea just in case. i just like the no mess when changing oil:D

If you do a small zip tie, it fits in the groove on the lever side just like the spring clip which prevents the lever from being able to lift up and twist. Then it's just a matter of snipping it off when changing the oil. Quick, easy insurance...

Lowes does indeed have them (in all sizes). Amazing they carry them yet HD doesn't! Got my clamp there just this weekend and already installed it.
