Yup. 38 deg exactly? 3-5 psi MAX. At 39 degrees? 8-9 psi. That’s a big fucking difference. Many hours of work with @mZiggy including eliminating the CETL table entirely to figure this shit out. Meaning zero cold start protection. NOPE! Thanks Toyota! Lol

 

WTF. In Canada that means 1/2 the year I have limited torque.
Makes sense why I felt extra power last week when it was 45 degrees...!!!!

Do you know exactly how much it it limiting? When is a temp sensor bypass being designed ?

 

A bypass likely would involve a restrictor of some sort, inline to the sensor, and would almost certainly just result in that threshold only being lowered rather than removed.

I am not likely to develop and provide that mod myself, or endorse it, since it would involve tampering with Toyota safety systems and I'd like to steer clear of that.

 

When there is snow or ice on the ground I typically turn off all the traction control features by holding the trac button so I can have some fun. I’m pretty sure I had my full 7psi when I’ve played around with that. Maybe not though.

 

I was wondering about turning off traction control. Easy theory to test.

 

We tried everything. Including trac off. Partial and all the way off holding the button. Doesn’t work. ECU still limits torque and boost.

In 30’s ambient with nothing in the bed we can break the rear end loose whenever we want. Even without the supercharger. Still fun… but there is a definite decrement in power that occurs at 38 deg exactly.

 

I just tested. I can still get my full 7 psi at redline with the snowflake on and my engine below operating temp.


This weekend I’ll give it a test at an even colder temp with a fully loaded trailer, but I’m 100% I’ve always been able to get at least 7psi in 2nd gear.

 

Now this is interesting. Manual trans as well. Can you screenshot which Magnuson version you have? I might need them to send me an update. Lol

 

Heck I don’t even know where that computer is after I moved. Mine is the earliest iteration of v7 though

I’ll see if I can find it this weekend.

 

Does the ECT button allow full torque?

You definitely need the supercharger with the entire TRD Bro parts catalog attached to the truck.

 

I was re-installing my restrictor and I didn't want to take the chance of dropping the little part while fumbling with cold fingers in a 20° garage so I removed the two button head cap screws so I could turn the solenoid (or whatever it's called) over . Does anyone know how critical the adjustment is on this? The two holes in the bracket are slotted so there's a LOT of adjustment.

 

Probably not very important as long as the actuator arm is fairly straight.

 

What does this thing do anyway?

 

At cruise\low\no load conditions it allows your intake air to bypass the supercharger. Once you open the throttle a certain amount it shuts the bypass valve and routes the air through the blower to create boost.

 

I'm curious to know more about this. Is it only when the coolant is at that temp or outside air temp?

I've noticed (even before the blower) there is a threshold where the truck makes no power when the coolant temp gauge is below a certain temp. But as soon as it reaches a certain point on the gauge I get full power (or what I think is full power) regardless of outside air temp.

 

What you're feeling is Magnuson's use of the CETL table (limiting torque when coolant temp is below a specific operating temp)

 

So it's totally dependent on COOLANT temp not AMBIENT AIR temp? It just didn't seem clear in some of the responses. I thought I knew, but was just verifying.
