I’ve got a 6 speed. Apart from the throwout bearing squeal I think many people don’t like it just because it’s kinda awkward to drive. I’ve driven so many stick shift vehicles while working at a dealership and have to say the Taco 6spd is just weird to drive in terms of the clutch pedal, throws, and the ideal seating position. It’s clunky and “trucky” for sure, but it’s unique and I like that. Also in Canada the only way to get a TRD sport DCSB was to get it with the 6spd so I was forced to if I didn’t want to get a US model haha

roll overs (two on 97, one on 98) lots of cussing mods on 08 ARB bumpers on all
i detest the 08 6 spd. the shift pattern is too tight, anyone having problems shifting from 6 to 4th gear for passing and getting 2nd?
anddddd, the fact that reverse is over next to 1st. there was a reason that wasnt done by smart designers. so your not jamming reverse when you need 1st in a big hurry.
i am going to get everything wrong fixed in the 08 trd and send it down the road. i will rebuild my 98 4x4 and fall back on that. i have a strong 79 F150 ranger i am getting up for the road
as long as toyota keeps that bs 4x4 electric transfer shift, i will not own a new one.... 05 on up
what i would give for a straight axle 85ish toyota with a bigger extended body

other cars you have to push down vertically a lot on the shifter as part of reverse

I would be impressed if anyone manages to accidentally go into reverse instead of first with the 6 speed... you have to pull pretty damn hard to go far enough left to get into reverse... if you have the short shifter kit I'd say its basically impossible to do on accident since it takes even more leverage. Maybe it just me having weak arms though lol.

my 6pd is plenty fast and my chick right foot is heavy AF
never owned an automagic, hope to never have to - -
    & no make up here..

you are completely right on the rest though - if you know what you are doing, the MT is quicker b/c you control when vs 'fuel economy'
i get 13-14mpg in my truck and it is all my doing - -

i also have a BMW 2011 128i I6 6spd - that car sux in an automagic, but is fun as hell in a MT - almost at 100K and just put a new suspension in her
    i get 20mpg like clockwork

i accept my driving proclivities - - and the expense they incur..

old German car autos sucked until ZF came out with the 8AT
Taco 5AT is probably comparable to reliable Benz W211 5AT ZF 722.6

people buy manual because they want to enjoy driving vs not enjoy it

Exactly - I want to enjoy my ride, and not it dictate how much fun I have..

It is a shame what driving has degraded to in the US.. something like 7% MT vehicles
point, click, blah - if they would just stay out the left lane, i'd be all good
