So thanks to the IRS my bank account is now above the $2,000 mark as of today!

Going to pay off the credit card for $1,000 so that leaves another grand to spend or invest/save.

I'm thinking new K&N intake, Beefed tubed back bumper and new exhaust. (want to get a nice growl but nothing too crazy to piss off the neighbors late at night)

    Any other ideas?

its a great time....we've been going for years now. i dont know how it is up there, but down here we show up like 4 hours early and tailgate....its like a giant truckshow out in the parking lot. it rained pretty good on us all night so i didn't get as many good pics as i usually do but you get the idea....
one little tip for ya, get the best seats you can. it makes a world of difference, we used to just get the nosebleeder seats but paying a llittle extra gets you right up front. and it is definately worth it. we were like 10 rows from the field, right in the mix, actually got mud on us from the trucks. it was awesome!!!

cheaper than blowing out an icon

i could go with a simpler setup and it'd be about $60 - $70 cheaper, but that's a non-adjustable setup. with the stuff i'm going with, i can limit the drop by a half inch or whatever i choose. that's for going fast, where i'm worried about the sudden drop when a tire(s) leave the ground at speed, but with the quick turn of a wrench, i can be back at full travel for the slower articulation stuff where the suspension will reach full drop at a much lower speed, meaning that impact force is not placed on it.

    Save it.

How bad is it to have them drop out from under you? Is the damage repairable with a simple rebuild kit? If so I'm wondering how many rebuilds it would take to equal the cost of the straps. Would you weld the tabs onto the lca's?

    Ryan,
    How's the truck doing?

at slow speed (like most of citrus), it's not too bad. but if you go from loaded suspension to nothing quickly (as you do when you're going fast), it'll put a good bit of force on it.

think of it as a punch. if you get punched in the forehead, it hurts because there is not only the simple force, but the mass of a fist/arm following it. if that same person were to lightly put their fist against your head and then press as hard as they could, it wouldn't hurt, it'd just be annoying.

the reason the punch hurts so much is because you are not simply resisting a static force, but enduring an impulse. an impulse is the force that changes momentum. momemtum factors in mass, so with a quick suspension drop, not only are you resisting the static force of the spring, but you have to bring the momentum of the mass of the entire suspension plus the wheels and tires down to zero.

sorry, that kinda turned into a report

as for the cost, it'd probably be about the cost of repuilding both sides.
my other motivation though, is that since i live so far away from most of the good wheeling locations, i figure it's a lot easier to drive home with a snapped limit strap or bent strap mount than it is with a blown shock.

and yeah, i'll probably jsut weld a reinforcement plate to the LCA, and then the tab onto that.

I understand how it's more force when the wheels drop out. I've spent a ton of time playing around with the r/c car.

Good point about driving home. I see where you're coming from.

yeah. I've got 3 of them. 1 fully functional, 1 halfway, and another that has a couple gears in the tranny stripped. Haven't gotten it fixed because I know it will be a time bomb again.

    Does Plasti-Dip count as a mod ?
I was out playing around in Citrus yesterday (yeah I know lots of us were just there 2 weeks ago). It was kind of fun playing in the rain. Saw quite a few folks out there in other vehicles. Not a lot of mud left despite the rains.

One thing happened that I feel kinda bad about. At the end of Trail 16 by Lecanto Hwy there was a two wheel drive Tundra stuck in a hole. That spot in the S turn where it's all slick clay mud. Anyhow, I drove up and offered to pull him out, but then realized there's no way I could pull him up hill in that slick shit with my stock OR tires. I was slipping and sliding just on my own. I felt bad for them, I offered to drive them somewhere or help them call for help. I hope they made it out alright.
