Made the switch from KDMax Pro Sport throttle to Nexus +P this past Thursday and it's crazy how different these two tunes are. I only have about 200 miles on it so far, I'll give a more complete review after I get more miles on it but there are my initial reactions. Truck is a 2019 AT, intake/exhaust, heavy 33" Duratracs on stock gearing.

The tip in isn't as heavy as KDM but with a little more skinny it accelerates just as well if not better. Hit the ECT button and hold on, it puts the truck in a true sport vs just holding revs a little longer like on the stock tune.

Around town under light throttle/acceleration Nexus doesn't hold gears as long as KDM. I like this because a lot of times it seemed like with the KDM tune it would hang onto a lower gear when it could have shifted up. On the flip side, I wish Nexus would hang onto a lower gear just a tad longer as sometimes it feels like it's in a rush to shift up. That said, Nexus seems like it has a lot more power/torque down low to lug the lower gears. As with tip in, just a tad more throttle on acceleration and all is good. I'm still getting used to the switch from KDM sport throttle that required lighter throttle input.

On the freeway my truck likes Nexus a lot more than KDM. With KDM the truck could barely hold 6th gear on the freeway. The slightest incline would cause a downshift to 5th, and then there was a huge dead pedal spot that would cause the truck to just lose speed even as you pressed the pedal farther until it finally shifted down to 4th. KDM wouldn't even hold 5th gear on hills that the stock tune held 5th gear perfectly fine. Then about half the time, it would get stuck in 4th gear even after the hill leveled out and I would have to put it in S mode to manually shift it back to 5th. All these issues are gone with Nexus. As with around town, in higher gears on the freeway Nexus feels like it has a ton more low end power/torque. It's been holding 6th gear fine even up slight inclines, and when it does downshift to 5th up steeper hills there's a ton of power and it holds speed fine and even accelerates. About 100 miles into Nexus I had dead pedal in 5th on two consecutive hills, but it hasnt happened since so I'm going to assume/hope it was just a hiccup with the tranny still learning everything.Due to having so much more power down low, sometimes up hills it will want to shift back to 6th before it crests the hill and have to downshift back to 5th, but it doesn't gear hunt nearly as bad as stock and this too has been improving as I put more miles on it so it's probably just a matter of the tranny relearning everything.

WOT from a stop KDM feels a little bit faster off the line, but on the top end Nexus seems to have a lot more power.

So far, it seems like Nexus has an advantage in MPG's as well. I'm assuming this is due to having a lot more low end power and being able to hold higher gears. I was averaging 17 MPG's with KDM driving as conservative as possible, and so far on my first tank of Nexus I'm showing 18.5 on the display with lots of WOT runs, heavy acceleration, and playing around with ECT.

Much happier with Nexus +P so far and I'm expecting it to only get better as the tranny gets through its learning period.

 

The fact you talk about 5th and 6th the most amazes me. What is 6th gear, i havent seen that in 5 years lol. Personally though, 5th and 6th are not that much of a difference. Unless you can get 6th to hold for quite a while your MPG wouldnt improve. I would suggest sticking it to S5 and see how that does. Ive limited my tacoma to 5th on all tunes and stock. Ive seen over 20mpgs for sure. Also not having that downshift for highway power is great. I could drive my truck in 5th all day long and never have it shift. The RPM is not that different so instead of ur trans always going back n forth. Keep in it 5th. I kept my tacoma in 4th at 60mpg as mine sits and i saw a solid 21 entire time. I am excited to try this tune real soon! I got my cable shipped so maybe april, the canadian taco can have some fun with nexus tunes!

 

Great input! I couldn't imagine driving the kd tune with all the tip in. Sounds miserable. I took my tacoma up to 12k feet yesterday and it did very good. It is just so much happier on this tune. The truck just cruises along at 75 in 6th with a low load and gets way better mpg. With the low end having so much more torque I can let off throttle instead of constantly being dug into it. It truly is remarkable how much better this tune is than anything else out there. I feel bad for people that aren't willing to give this one a try. It is by far the best thing around.

This F'king guy, I swear. For reference, I've been tuning since OVTune 1.02. 45,000 miles later and my truck hasn't blown up yet.

You did this same nitpicking thing with Mat when he was developing his tunes. You look at data logs and think you have some 6th sense that allows you to tell what is right and wrong with the tunes. You've admitted yourself in the past that you don't know what is good or bad data, and that you're just "making observations". Then when the tuners, who have actual knowledge, tell you that what you see is within normal limits or is not harmful to the truck, you change your story and start making accusations. "There are too many misfires", "you're using too much DI", "the tail pipe isn't as tight around my peter as it used to be". And still, after all this time, you continue to prove yourself to be a troll. The only tune I haven't seen you complain about is KDMax. I guess they paid you off to leave them alone. In conclusion, do us all a favor and stop trying to do us all a favor. These guys know what they're doing, and if there's an issue that comes up I'm sure it will be plastered all over Tacoma World.

On another note, this is the first tune I've seen that is making me consider switching from OVTune 2.0. Looking forward to see where this goes.

How does someone who has neither the hardware nor software for tuning go about getting your tune? I'm in the greater Boston area. I have a local tuner that I've used recently to flash a couple of your competitors tunes but he doesn't offer your tune. You've got alot of positive reviews here so I'd like to give Nexus +P a try.

Also there's a couple complaints of a laggy or soggy accelerator. Is it possible to adjust this to be more comparable with the "sport" tip in offered elseware.
