I was replacing my upper and lower control arms yesterday and found my passenger side lower shock bolt seized up in the bushing. Needless to say after some destruction on my lower arm I got the shock assembly off and removed the bolt with the metal bushing sleeve attached. These shocks are maybe 3 years old I would rather buy a replacement bushing if I can vs a whole new shock. Has anyone had this issue and were you able to locate a new bushing? I have looked but haven't found anything yet.

    I'd call Bilstein tomorrow.

While the old one can be removed in a number of ways, installing the new one will likely require some type of press. Either a shop or a home brewed rig.

I'm wondering if the bolts were originally torqued with the suspension in droop instead of compression. This is the most common way that bushings in positions of 'motion' get destroyed.

I put these on my OEM Bilsteins: BIL-E4-GV2-Z024A02 . Wheelers shows them for 5100's also.

Just for future reference for anyone doing a search or just knowledge in general. The above bushing does not fit the Bilstein 5100 series Part number 24-239370. There is probably about 10 thousandths play all around the bushing and shock eye. :notsure: I ended up ordering a new shock instead of a 10 dollar bushing that should have fixed it. :annoyed:

    Hi man!

    thanks for sharing.

I bought a couple of them. Now, how did you took the old bushings out? Hammer and piece of pipe? How did you put new one? Same thing?

    thanks!

I pushed the original out with a hydraulic press. You will not be able to push it out without a press in my opinion and experience. Mine did not fit as stated above I could set in by hand and would freely fall out. Hopefully you have better luck.

    That sucks! Return it.

@Claudiomartinof Yep, I have a press. Could come out with one of them BJ C clamp tool. Dont recall if I used a socket or tube from my BJ kit.

Well I know my C clamp snapped in half when I tried to use it.

Antiseize or grease, on the shoulder of those bolts should help prevent that in the future.

No that one is a little more heavy duty and I don't imagine it will be very easy. Turning a wrench or hitting it with an impact. While trying to hold it yourself. Not saying it's impossible just not as easy. But mine did take quite a bit from a 12 to hydraulic press.

Well I did coat it with some white lithium grease prior to installing this time.
