Yes, I did see a nice looking flare tool for a couple hundred dollars. I could see if that line didn't hold tight it wouldn't work good. Before ordering anything I sure need to investigate where the fluid is going. However that old of a truck they're probably toast.
I've had some bending training and experience (limited) with SS tube and swagelock fittings so I don't think getting a line routed good enough will be an issue.
Son sure seems to like the old K5 and they don't get much easier to work on than something like that.
Maybe he can learn something. He seems to listen a little better lately.

Up here in the rust belt we replace a lot of brake lines. It is quite disheartening to make the perfect replacement piece and then discover that you neglected to put the fitting on before you made your double flare...:rocket::rant:

My method is to snip the line off with a small sharp chisel right at the fitting, then you can use a 6 point socket to remove the fitting.
You also can form your new piece side by side to match the one you cut out. The tube is easy to form over whatever item will give you the profile you need, just take your time.

I bought stainless pre bent ones from Summit for my Duramax, they weren’t as bad as I thought they would be.

    Goodmorning crew:pccoffee:
I did see brake lines available pre-bent and also didn't think the price was horrible bad. They seem more readily available now than in the past. Couple decades ago the place I purchased from before was called Classic Tube iirc, and they were more expensive then. I really want to learn how to do it really, wife's friend n coworker has a bad brake line too, I could fix.
@RustyGreen , those are good ideas for getting the old fitting off and using the old for a template. I've seen before enough times things like forgetting to put the fitting on first. I think I'd be good there, but never say never, just jinxed myself.
A good one for out of order steps is shrink fit coupling that requires outer cover/driver put on first.

His self diagnosis is "covid toe". It's a real thing if you look it up, still hasn't been to the doctor.
