Haha I just see guys claim they get upwards of 280 till empty and 19-20+ mpg. Some guy said he gets 17-18 with a lift and tires. Just don’t see how.

I have the wireless charging one.
The only gripe I have is it’s magsafe which I hate. Meaning you have to use the metal ring from course in conjunction with the charger. I tried even the wireless compatible metal plates and it doesn’t work. Wish it utilized standard wireless chargers, not the magsafe.

 

Lol. Right? I was trying to figure that out as well, took a small road trip for this weekend (150 miles or so). Aired up my tires to 37psi since they were factory set at 31-32. Tried to drive most of the way with cruise control on with a 21 trd OR 6mt, all stock. Most I saw was just over 18 on the highway. I guess if I lived in a dead ass flat state and always had a tailwind, maybe I could get 20?

 

I saw a truck today on wheels I never gave much respect to. (never liked it on a 4Runner) But I think it looks pretty good on a Tacoma.

 

Yep good eye. This is typically the ramp we use when we take the boat out although it's gotten extremely busy over the last few years.

The problem is that most of us do interstate speeds when we're on the interstate, or higher. Fuel economy rapidly starts to drop above 55mph. Just an example from https://www.mpgforspeed.com/:


I can actually tell how much traffic I've been stuck in because my fuel economy improves.

 

I’ve found the 2.7 is most efficient at 62 mph. I averaged 29.1 mpg from Portland Oregon to Idaho falls ID at that speed in summer weather. It’s also desert through there so the air is dry. I was bedding the engine during that time, no cruise control. On 93 octane and a bottle of Lucas fuel treatment.

 

When on our 400 series highways I try to keep the rpm below the 2000 threshold in AT 6th gear. At this RPM I'm doing about 120 kph (74 mph). If it drops down to 5th I slow a bit so it will go back into 6th.

 

Are you in freeway traffic or city red light traffic? Or both

 

I'm averaging 16 to 18.5 mpg depending on speed I travel and such. Usually I take the back way to work and do 55 to 65. With a little hwy at 65 to 70mph and then backwards home I can see 18.5

I have a lift via ome dakars and bilsteins. Tires are 235/85r16 at 41psi

 

I know a lot of people have dropped their gear ratios when they up their tire size. If/when I do get bigger tires (next truck since I'll be selling this one in a few months and won't have a truck for 3 years), I think I'll keep the gearing the same so that my RPM is at around 2 grand at 70mph. 2,000 seems to be the motor's happy place.

Yes, every vehicle has a "sweet spot" for fuel economy. As we mod with exterior items or tire sizes that "sweet spot" will change.

Fuel economy is one reason why I pull a pop-up camper. It is a bit of a PITA to setup but I only consume about 20% more fuel when pulling.

 

Metro traffic is the worst. I live by the trucker motto,” if you ain’t turnin you ain’t earnin” I’ll leave a football field in front of me, even in my Corolla. Just keep the wheels rolling that way you’re not burning gas sitting still. Also uses less brakes. No sense in speeding to red lights. Also in high car jacking smash and grab areas, it makes you a harder target and leaves you with a way out. Just saying this is my approach. Try timing lights, use that 1000 yard stare..
