I was running stock injectors, 91 octane fuel, stock fuel pump and standard thermostat with Iridium spark plugs and an Innovate gauge, nothing else and the truck ran great! (2001 DBCB 5FVZE). If you run stock sized pulley, you shouldn't have any issues. Some engines want to ping, if yours is that way, you will have to look into water/meth, Haltech... etc. You will love the extra power and SC whine..:) However, once you have it for awhile, you will start going down the rabbit hole.. I promise. I now have 2.1 pulley, water/meth, high output fuel pump (AEM), Haltech...it never ends... but the ROI was worth it for me.

For me it was learning to be comfortable with higher shift points (to avoid ping). If I hit boost at under 2500 RPM it will likely ping, but 2500+ it never does. So I have to shift at around 3500-4k to insure that I'm not below 2500 in the next gear. I have the 7th injector but I don't think that even kicks in until 4k+ RPM.

Course this is related to a manual trans

Finally joining the 3.4l SC club.

Picked up a TRD supercharger, 7th Injector Kit, Snow Performance Methanol Injection, and DT Headers this weekend.

Yeah, talk about timing. Hopefully by the time I get everything put on, the prices have settled back down a bit. If not, then that just means fewer trips to the bars.

    Yeah...it hurts

Just filled up for $90 this weekend. Might become one of the few 1st gen to fill up for over $100 next time.

My truck is my daily but luckily work is only about 6 miles from home. If all I'm doing is commuting then I'll fill up once every 2 weeks, so that's not so bad. Throw a camping/wheeling trip in there though and sky's the limit

Has anyone had any issues with stock clutch after installing the Supercharger?

Nope, been running a stock clutch on mine since I got it (with supercharger already installed). I don't granny it but I also don't do redline shifts, if you're planning to drive it like you stole it then you may want to consider an upgrade. Otherwise I think most people are fine with the stock one.

Someone on here had their flywheel blow apart and nearly came up through the floor of the truck, but he's turbo'ed and pushing a lot more power. Not gonna see that happen with this supercharger

Perfect, I don't plan to redline.

Its my daily and only source of transportation at the moment so I'd rather not over step its boundaries. Another question I had is what system do you use for tuning? Looks like I'm going to need a piggyback system for my ECU?

yeah you can't tune the ECUs of these trucks, so a piggyback system or standalone ECU like a Haltech is the only way to go. I have the URD 7th injector kit which comes with a piggyback controller for customizing it. I've just been running it with the stock tune it came with though.

Since you're in CA, all that stuff (including the URD kit) isn't CARB legal and will fail smog visual...fortunately the URD kit is pretty easy to hide and hasn't been an issue for me yet.

Great information, I just saw a good thread giving insight on the Haltech and 7th injector. Looks like I still got plenty of research to do before I begin the install.

No, you will be fine with the stock one, mine goes about 250k for each clutch.
A turbo on the other hand will eat the clutch up

I am in central california in the town of Prather in the mountains. I drove till I was almost on fumes and put in 18 gallons at our local Indian casino so I wouldnt have to pay state tax per gallon, and paid 5.42 a gallon and it was $97.56.. which was bull they were charging 4.92 for 89.. 5.02 mid grade.. and 5.42 for premium. but it was cheaper than the 5.89 at the stations in prather ca

It's odd to me how much premium has gone up compared to 87, maybe my memory is wrong but I always remembered there usually being just a 10c difference between the grades until recent years. Now it's like .50c more per gallon for 91 than 87 at some places.

in other news, gas actually went down today at the Arco I usually fill up at. Hopefully that continues
