yes it is. Doesn't seem too hard either. uses the 5th gear from an R452 tranny. parts aren't that expensive but not ultra cheap. May be hard to find too..

Just ordered some new tires through Walmart originally said they’d be ready for pickup Thursday but just got an email saying there’ll be a delay so hopefully that’s not too long.

I wrote those off out of lack of knowledge/experience with the brand. Looked into them afterward and have only read good things.

Curious to hear how you feel about them in 10k miles.

 

The tread design was what caught my attention at first. Kinda like a ko2 and a duratrac crossbreed IMO. After that I started researching and watching YouTube videos on them for like the past 6 months and I’ve only read good things about them.
Fun fact: They technically are 3 peak mountain snow rated, even tho they officially aren’t. Supposedly one size barely didn’t pass the test but every other size did.
Based purely off research, these seem to be the most underrated tire on the market. IMO.

Went from Falken Wild Peak A/T3W to Cooper ST Maxx to STT Pro and now to Toyo Open Country III's.

 

I’ve also been waiting on the funds to pull the trigger so that’s mostly why I’ve had so much time to look into them haha. Ya my toyo open country II’s have been great but I like a more aggressive look. Hence why I’ve been looking into the hybrid category.

 

I was replacing a u-joint on my Tacoma today and one set of caps was not wanting to move when I was pressing it out. I even bent the handle on my vice. In a moment of inspiration I tapped the yoke with a hammer while I had it clenched in the vice. It made a loud pop and the caps moved about a quarter inch. That little bit of shock was enough to get them to brake loose.

 

I had a helluva time replacing mine. After battling one for far two long the angle grinder made quick work of the rest.

 

Pro tip: this works with stubborn bolts. Lightly tap the head with a hammer can go a long way to break things free.

 

I've done this on my front diff allen to keep it from stripping too. Usually I put the allen in the plug and then tap the ratchet with a hammer before I try to move it. I got one of those fancy lexus ones ready to go in now though.


Had my coldest camp yet on a snowboard trip to VT. Friday night was mild at a 37* low. Snow started in the AM as winds picked up and temps dropped as we snowboarded all day. Got back to camp to 15 mph winds and dealt with 20 mph sustained, 40 mph gusts over night.

I just used lifetime gear oil for the front diff so I don't need to deal with that plug. Not fun.

And that looks damn cold. We've been skunked a lot this year with the cold. Can't wait to get this spring thaw started.

 

With enough water crossings I wouldn't count on it being lifetime. I have had water get in my front diff when the seals were damaged and I was unaware. Not enough to damage anything obviously but enough to make the oil this color:

 

Heat that up and toss a marshmallow in and you've got a good winter drink.

 

If you don't change it, it's lifetime.
