My current truck, I walked into the dealer, salesman walked up and started a conversation. I told him what vehicle I was looking at. I said straight out that we can do this in an hour or I can walk away and you get no commission, the dealership gets no service. I didn't need to buy as my then current truck was paid off and I liked it. I told him to get his best price from the sales manager. He came back, I looked at the price and told him to put Toyota mudflaps on it and we would be good. We were done in just about an hour. I may have paid a couple of hundred more than I could, but I didn't waste half of my (and the salesman/sales manager's) day. In the end, what's a couple hundred on a $38k sale?

That was a completely different situation than today's environment. You'd have to be daft (or desperate) to be buying in this market, the buyer has absolutely no leverage at all.

You know you can cut the dealer lot salesman out too. Go to true car and find a vehicle you want for example.
Research it call the dealer Internet sales and tell them the vehicle you want.
    Finance it yourself.
Go and submit paperwork and be on your way.
I've been buying vehicles like this for years. I don't think I've talked to a lot "salesman" or gone in and actually sought one out in 10 years. Choose your poison.

OP said dealer contacted him (mine has done the same). Why is he the asshole? The last time the dealer called me, I asked what they had on the lot to replace what they wanted to buy from me. Crickets. Haven't heard from them since.

Yeah, they can always lower the payment without lowering the actual cost of the vehicle. "Can't afford they payment"? "No problem, we'll put you into a nice money sucking 84 month loan"

I wasn't going to engage this tool, but I'm glad you did and nailed it.

Please, enough with the axe body spray

Seriously, I find it sad that "normal people", as they referred to themself as, have to explain to this slime ball that the extra $300 over 5 years matters more to us than their shitty job paying them based off the amount they sell. Find a job that pays you a liveable wage then you can act "normal" when you are not trying to rip actual normal people off. You are not serving food. You don't get a tip because the industry is fucked and rips their employees off. There is no sympathy for your shitty attitude towards me wanting the best deal and having to basically threaten to rip your tongue out after I saw your throat with a rusty serrated blade to fucken reach in and grab it.:hungry:

That's what people feel like doing. You suck.

Thing is, I think if they just needed to focus on helping the customer find the right vehicle, and not soaking them for every thing they can, it would be all good. Maybe with Ford paving the way for online vehicle sales, the dealerships will wake up and provide customer service, not trying to service themselves on the customer.

You are aware that the Government has a hard deadline for going full EV for automakers? There is no go down with the ship…the ship, is the entire industry.

Tides might change, and if a manufacture that could still sell gas and diesel along side their EVs, and their EVs don't sell. That side of the business can go bankrupt with out impacting the other side.

What's wrong with having a contingency plan even if it never has to be implemented?

Do you think Ford is only interested in making money?

I figure that’s what all corporations are interested. Not sure many others truly have any other motive.

True, but they probably want to continue being able to make money.

    Or take a bail out.

Choice would be theirs, and still see a profit. While making money directly from the customer.

    It's a situation where they can't lose.

This forum made me realize that dealerships play similar tactics throughout the USA.

I paid MSRP on a 22' TRD DCSB AT few weeks ago, wonder if I could get MSRP out of it as I don't love the build quality.

I've always found the salesman I've dealt with for new car purchases (7) have always been the pleasant part to the transaction.
