    Hello,

I have a 2004 Tacoma 3.4L V6 4x4 that has been running hot. I tried changing out the t-stat and installed a new Toyota t-stat, but later that day, it began to heat up again.

Then, my friend came over and noticed the fan was not blowing enough air. It was obviously spinning, but I hadn't realized how little airflow was blowing until we compared it to another Tacoma. So that was the second thing I did. I changed out the fan clutch, and now had a great amount of air flowing through. It ran great last night and all day today, but then just a few hours ago, the needle began to rise again. I was parked, so I quickly revved up the engine to 1500RPM and turned on the heat full blast, and the temperature quickly came back to the middle.

I am so disappointed with this problem as I am the biggest fan of Toyota trucks, and this was the first time I ever bought one from a dealer. It runs absolutely great, except for this problem. Oil is great in color and level, coolant is full and has never leaked. I have no idea what to do next, and do not want to change another good part unnecessarily.

    Please help!!

    Thanks!! :)

why didn't you go with a electric fan ? Could be air in the system? I have had that problem with German cars

May sound stupid but have you checked the engine oil level? The engine will run hot if the level is too low.

Ok, going to check the oil level right now. By the way, should I check it when its cold, when its hot, when its running???

And how do you "burp" the cooling system?

Easy question first. Did you install the thermostat with the "jiggler" or valve to the top? That helps let any air out. Also, did you let it run with the radiator cap off for a fair amount of time? (Letting any air out also) Next check and see if the temp sending unit is clean and working(not grounding ) I had a VW that always told me I was overheating, turns out the wire to the sending unit was grounding to the block sending a false signal to the thermostat

I went through the same thing with my 1995 Nissan truck. Thermostat, then fan clutch. Finally bit the bullet and replaced the radiator. Problem solved. You can see flow in a bad radiator that is partially blocked.

before you do that you should check your water pump for hairline cracks not very easy to see by eye but it is very possible cause that has happened to me before replaced everythiing then realized its just the water pump. pull i off and shine a flashlight into the intel and should show any signs of hairline cracks

Is it burning coolant,or looseing coolant, head gasket maybe. Did you have the radiator cap presure tested?

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for the input. I just now fixed the problem..FINALLY!!!

So aparently, the lower radiator hose was very old and weak, and it had been collapsing due to the suction pressure from the water pump. I NEVER noticed it before, but I also had no idea that that was something to check for. I changed it out and it's now running great. Not a single sign of overheating. In fact, the needle seems to be even lower than the middle now!! :)
