TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

How's that look with the hood closed? I was thinking center due to the supercharger heat. But i don't really know which placement would work best

 

If I were to spend more money, I would have done a center vent as well. But I don't know anything about aerodynamics and harmonics. Maybe a cool project for me and my dad in the future who's past life was the aeronautical engineer.

 

I'm no expert on cooling or aero but, FWIW, my other two S/C vehicles include centerline heat extractors (outlined in red). Interestingly, both are positioned to vent hot air from the cars' multiple radiators in front of them, rather than the S/C behind them.



Regardless of position, I'm sure venting hot air from under the hood is better than not.

 

agreed. wonder where he sourced them. i wanted to get some from a toyota 86. cutting holes im good at but theres still some mild pucker factor.

 

headers make way more heat. get in and do a high boost run. with the truck running immediately pull over and feel the s/c. its barely warm. if your cooling system is working correct it should be fine.

Yours looks like drop vents. And makes sense for radiator airflow, in and out.

 

I like the idea of raising the hinge side of the hood. Like a giant cowl. But I do know a lot of effort goes to getting the heat to exit along the firewall and down under. Not sure what amount of turbulence (less efficient dissipation) would get introduced in either situation. Louvers or cowl would help at low speeds for sure. Just not sure on high speeds.

My wife's 340ix is has a turbo, along with a 6-spd stick, M brakes, M suspension, M steering, and M Performance Power & Sound Kit (+35HP/+25TQ and lots better sound), but no hood vents.


We wanted an M3, but they weren't available with xDrive, which is a requirement for her daily driver. We pulled the trigger in 2018, which was the last MY 340s were available with 3-pedals.

 

keep the radiators cool and the computer can deal with the rest. very cool cars!

 

I see you had a hidden ace in the garage. Sounds like you got mostly what you wanted. Seems like the m3 still is available in 6 speed if you change your mind and there is space next to the 340. That's a fun garage. Something I aspire to one day.

 

tile garage floor.....baller status. ive only tiled a couple garages in my time. one even had a massive mirrored turntable. and tv's on the wall so his car could watch auto cross.

 

I can't take credit for the tile floor and we have no electric vehicles - that's the BMW dealer's delivery bay.

We went with a polyaspartic floor coating in our garage. Here's a wide angle shot, taken during a hailstorm when we shoe-horned my son's '04 into the normal "storage" bay.

Though I am interested to know what exactly a tune would be changing on the 5.7L... I have a Sequoia (same engine as the Tundra) I wonder if it would tune the same. @JustDSM ?

Our Tundra tune addresses the same things we work on with the 2nd Gen's with the addition of the exhaust cam (since they're Dual VVTi). The Tundra has a Tow Mode for more options to set a things up for "split personality". You can remap the modes independently and have unique throttle and shift mapping for each.

We address the primary fueling, ignition, VVTi (Intake and Exhaust), ACIS, Torque Management, Throttle Mapping, Shift Scheduling, Torque converter lock-up/release and line pressures on our Tundra Tune.

Our '07-18 tune has been a success for us and we're VERY excited at the addition of the '19-'21 trucks.

Have you tuned any jeep 3.6 motors? Specifically a gladiator.. asking for a friend I promise
