How do you shear off 5 of the six then mess up the 6th one where it will not unscrew.

That has to be a record of some kind.

Either those were cross threaded, the threads were contaminated, or they were over torqued if that happened in just 5k miles.

If I want to get the problem fixed. The Toyota dealer in Golden wants about $1400.

I guess that is an expensive lesson.

The consensus seems to be to get it fixed. I will do that at some point, but for now I will drive on 5 lugs. It makes me wonder is the engineering on 6 lugs that much compromised with 1 missing?

You said earlier that 5 were broken off and the 6th was just spinning.

Its true. I replaced the 5 but I was unable to replace the 6th one cause the splines? where stripped out and was spinning.

Yes you should be fine with 5 lugs until you get it repaired.

I’ve driven around with 3 lugs before so 5 is more than fine

Good to know..I am going to Aspen this weekend so 5 lugs it is. lol
Its been a great truck. I am the original owner. Toyota replace the frame, break lines, a few other things, and at the time they did that I got new motor and cab mounts. They replaced the timing chain gasket and the steering (thing I cant think of the name). I recently put on 6112 and 5160's and airbags. And several more things along the way. So, considering all that I guess I need to pay and consider it a lesson learned. I have done alot to that truck thanks to this site. Apparently rear breaks is not one of them.
I have no interest in trying to lean how to replace the rear axle at this point.. Maybe if I had another car to drive.
