There are days where if an offer landed in my lap I might. But most days no. Raises this year are supposed to be better, and the pay isn’t bad in the first place, but the level of frustration is constantly high.

Definitely had thoughts of getting into a less corporate business, I’ve always struggled with the red tape.

Exactly. My boss was trying to make the 5% raise sound good and I wasn’t excited.

At least our vacation stuff is good. They changed 4 holidays to floating ones this year that we can take whenever we want, which is nice.

I’m fine with putting extra time in to get whatever needs done, done.

    But there’s a line

So no 100 hour weeks. Or working 12+ days strait with no days off?

    Stuff. Also things.
There were plenty of people at my last job, mostly on the engineering side, who would have no qualms bailing to other companies for a year or two and coming back in order to get around the whole ‘time in grade’ requirement. And yet when I was a lab supervisor, I had to tell my 22 yo Tech I that he was stuck there for another three years despite the fact that he was running circles around new hire Tech II and Tech IIIs. That was a beyond shitty feeling to have to tell him that as he’s a local guy with a kid on the way trying to buy a house in our ridiculous market. My manager told me that we would no longer hire in Tech I’s and leave them stuck for four years and then then two weeks later forced me to do exactly that with another new hire.

It was a huge part of why I decided to nope out and never look back.

I’ll bet. Seems like a great setting for a horror movie!

I had to spend the night with some classified hardware in a huge test facility. That was damn spooky too, despite the fact I was locked in

It’s a classic 70s split level, so not too bad. But the siding is that shitty mortar board stuff that acts like a damn sponge and the soffit boards are pretty ragged in some spots. I’d love to go with some modern siding, soffit and gutters, but damn that’s a big chunk of change!

I'm in a big job shop machine shop, we do alot of work for BNSF and Washington state ferry and Boeing so I feel out of touch with the flow of the economy because companies like that never really slow down

one of my biggest pet peeves in life is when people crowd me while working or trying to focus on something

+100 if they're eating while crowding me

My first few welds on my cube were ass; I kept pulling the filler too far out causing contamination or I dabbed too early or something.

The last 3 welds were coming out much better, consistently, and it was after the 1st one that the other classmates gathered. Was annoying doing the last weld.

we got a 5% raise at the end of 2021, it was a nice little surprise considering it wasn't asked for...they called it a "cost of living increase" raise.

But then it occurred to me that they probably did that because they knew it would be cheaper to give everyone 5% than it would be to wait until we started requesting bigger raises one by one.
