    There’s a thread out there somewhere that had all this info. I was looking to see if the tail gate lock would work on my friend’s 2018 TRD sport but she didn’t wanna risk it. It didn’t specify if that part would work on anything older than a 2019. But I don’t know if the tailgate changed a lot from then to now. I got one for my 2021.

    I installed that part number on my 2016 OR DCLB two years ago. No issues. If you have a DCSB or Acess cab you use the JSO part for the shorter wheelbase.

    Completely plug and play.

    I'm just seeing this, apologies. So the
    $163 Toyota Genuine 2019 & Newer Tacoma Long Wheelbase Tailgate Lock PK3B6-35JL0
    PK3B635JL0 works just fine for you? That's good news because I want to install it on mine. It's frustrating they didn't include that in the original build out of the rig. It just makes sense.

    Yep no problems, it's plug and play for an OR DCLB. The biggest pain is getting your fingers between the tailgate and bed to install the new cable grommet that prevents chafing. Instructions are very easy to follow, there's a few posted online that you can download and a few install videos. Longbed or short the install is the same. The only difference is the longer wire harness to accommodate the longer wheelbase.

    Very mixed reviews on the Pop and Lock. I went with the OEM kit for my SR5 DCSB. The reason in my case that the online order system said it was not compatible is because I don't have a 110v converter. That makes a difference because as designed the trunk lock cable is intended to be wire tied to the cable for the converter. In reality, that just means that you have to find other tie down points and be very careful to route well away from the exhaust. All of the connectors, mounting holes, grommet locations, etc., are the same.

    How is the noise compared to the OEM version? Can anyone attest to this? I've heard reviews of this sounding very loud when locking and unlocking (which is to be expected IMO) but I am curious as to how loud the noise is.

    It’s about as loud as the locking beep from the truck. You can clearly hear the actuator locking or unlocking from any position around the truck.
