My niner wfo e9 is mullet. And i do find that the front monster trucks everything while i can still flick the rear. I think it best suit big long slack down hill Focused bikes.

but ive never own a full 29er just hop on some to try out for a little so idk. Came from riding only 27.5 all the time so i cant really compare 27.5 to 29 to mx

I have limited time on one, my Levo to new Levo. But the turning radius and shorter chainstays seem to make for a sharper handling bike. The wheel being smaller also helped with tire buzz on some of the drops/quirky descents. None of this is a deal breaker though, im not rushing out for a mullet.

Mullet wasn’t even a factor when i looked for a new bike. Just the bike I happened to decide on was mullet. Niner actually doesn’t make a non mullet WFO E9 and there reason for this is that it would make the bike to big and handle poor so they decided to go mullet to keep the bike agile on the trails. But this is also a big slack 180mm travel downhill/park bike.

    Thank you!
So far I’ve only gone and sat on 29ers. Good to know I can throw another size in the mix to widen my search parameters.

    Yeah.
This is purely my opinion, and I know of no science to prove my opinion right or wrong.

For small people, say under 5'4" or so, 27.5 may be a better choice when just starting out. Really small people (5' and under) may want to stick with that size, purely for the ability to control the bike better and have a better balance between wheel and frame size. That said, there was a 12 yo girl that raced on a Niner back in MO, and she did just fine on the big wheels. So, it's really what you feel comfortable with, but most people should step up to 29".

I've been trying multiple wheel and tire sizes to try and find my personal sweet spot. A 27.5+ with 2.8" tires is fun and stable and a great starter MTB for many, and a 29+ with 3" tires can be fun. Heck, steamrolling a fat bike through the chunk can be a blast. But, I've settled on 29" wheels with 2.6" tires as my personal do-everything sweet spot. Great rollover, great traction, not too much added rolling resistance. Most frames can accommodate.

As others have said, mullets have a place for downhill-focused or park bikes. For regular trail riding, they might suit smaller riders as a compromise between sizes. I don't think 26 or 27.5 is going anywhere, but I think the availability and variety of quality parts and tires for 29" will outpace the other sizes.

In the end its really what you feel comfortable and confident on. As long as you feel good on the bike you will have a fun time

So decided to fully switch to clipless this riding season and really need to get my confidence up on technical sections - climbing while clipped in is drastically different in a good way, and descents are great knowing my feet are always connected where I need them; can focus on line choice and having fun. However, a technical section or slow speed rocky climbs are taking its toll. Working to get my speed up to glide over rocks or have the momentum to hop over a root on a switchback, but that seems to come with confidence and technical skills.

speaking of budget bikes and components, anyone recommend/prefer SR Suntour or RockShox?

Looking at the trade up program for Suntour for the Epixon
    https://www.srsuntour.us/products/epixon-9-lo-r?variant=29038021251

    or a RockShox Recon Silver?

    https://www.sram.com/en/rockshox/models/fs-rcns-rl-d1

Went out on my hard tail last weekend and the clapped out, non-serviceable, pretty much rigid fork on there now isn't cutting it. I'd like an air spring fork that I can service and trying to not spend more than $300. Oh, and it needs to be 1 1/8 straight steerer.

    Yeah.
It really doesn't take long for unclipping to become 2nd nature. It can be rough getting there, though. You usually have to dab in slow, rocky, technical sections, and shoes with hard plastic soles tend to just want to slip on rocks. I switched to 5.10 Kestrel shoes with actual rubber bottoms, making rock garden dabbing and hike-a-bike a lot more stable (for me, anyway).

Hey guys, hopefully it's cool that I post this up.

I've been working on a little side project for a few months now. It's basically an outdoor accessory company with my main goal of growing into a full on clothing company. I've been running way more than I have been biking recently so I'm focusing on running products first (hats and padded socks). I have some zero padding socks that I like for bike rides in the works too.

It would be awesome if you all could check out my Instagram and website. Following would be amazing and obviously buying stuff would be the best! Either way I thought I would just post up and see what you all thought. A couple posts for attention haha

First off great job putting your passions to reality!

Im not a huge skull fan so the logo doesn’t tickle my fancy much. But it’s also not super off putting.

Being a trail runner as well you have my full attention with the air mesh hats and the socks. Especially with the option to change out patches

Thanks! I just said screw it last year and was like I spend way to much money on random shit, I might as well use it to do something I've always talked about but never took action on.

I understand the skull for sure, I have another patch design in the works too. I get bored with hats so figured this was a good way to switch it up without having a pile of hats (like I do now). I've also had requests for some "dad hat" style hats too so I might look into a performance dad hat as one of my higher priorities too.
