I started hearing a ticking whilst in park. I crawled under with my handy stethoscope & thought I had it narrowed down to the transmission. If it is, it’s way up front where it is the loudest. However, if I move my head towards the front of the truck a smudge past the transmission, that is where it seems the loudest.

Other symptoms - may be related -
Loping high idle - felt most in park & neutral
Whirring/whine type noise with increased rpm’s - heard most in park & neutral. I have been thinking this is the ps pump because I also get noise when turning the wheel….
    Whistling on acceleration only
Less get up & go. No hesitation or anything like that, just not as much pep in the step….

If it sounds like either/or, what tests can I run?
Or does it sound like it could be something else?

Might just be normal injector operation unless this is new. Would be a good time to check the valve lash since I'm sure your mileage is up there. It's a huge pain in the ass and I'm dreading it but necessary.

This is definitely new. Grabbed my attention enough to hunt for it. One of those, you know your truck (sounds, feel) things.
& if it's normal to have an increased tick, then I've gota hunt elsewhere to explain the other symptoms.
IAC is good, new fuel injectors, gaskets, hoses, cleaned everything down to the intake manifold, etc....

Can you post a video with sound? It's hard to diagnose sounds from a description.

I'll try. I think I was going to post something else on video/sound way back & even though I'm tech savvy, I decided not to. Red tape & all. I do get the need to screen things when possible though. So I have to do that through youtube? Or something like that?

This one is from underneath - I tried to make it clear where I was as far as position. Started under trans, moved towards the front & then back....

Confusing. There were two places to do this change & one just left it spinning. Got it now. They look like they're all set.

Could also be the Evap solenoid. My truck was parked for a while during a major repair and when I got it going again the evap solenoid ran continuously for a few days. A tick is usually something external to the engine, by that I mean not buried deep in the engine because that will be more like a knock (piston, rod, valve etc). Another example of a tick is an exhaust leak.

I used the stethoscope method also when I had the tick and could not hear a knock or tick when pressed against various parts of the engine so I knew it was something external to the engine. I did find a bad AC belt idler though, that thing was making a real loud whirring noise.

Yeah. I am all too familiar with the EVAP tick. To me that's different. This is more below the surface. Plus the EVAP is on the other side. I am hearing this loudest on the right.

I'm not hearing any ticking or I'm just getting old. Does the ticking increase when you rev it up?

yes. It increases, along with the whine. Not sure if they’re related. Funny how when I heard the video it was so much more clear to me that it was coming from in front of the trans. When I used the stethoscope I coulda sworn it was the trans. Too bad you can’t record the mouse through the stethoscope.

If it increases with the revs at idle I'm incline to think that its valvetrain related. Hard to tell when you're not in person. If you put the mechanics scope on the valve cover does it get louder?
