    Hey All!

It's new tire time for my Tacoma! I'm replacing the stock tires on my '18. Any suggestions for a tire that is slightly a bit more aggressive looking than the stock tires, without sacrificing much MPG or road noise? I know I'm looking for the unicorn of tires..but any suggestions or opinions would be great!

    Thanks!

My personal opinion, Falken Wildpeak AT3W. But there are others like the BF KO2.

I have the KO2. Used to run MT’s, put KO2’s on the wife’s 4runner for the same boxes you’re wanting to check, and they spoiled me. Would definitely recommend.

A buddy runs the Falken Wildpeaks on his Tundra and loves them. Quiet, work great on pavement and dirt roads, and from what I've seen are a really durable tire.

Thanks for the replies! I love the look of the Falkens and the KO2s. Anyone have any experience with Cooper Rugged Treks?

Another vote for the Falken’s. A tad more expensive and heavier than the KO2, but many have said quieter on pavement. (KO2s are apparently better off road by a smidge.)

I'm not too concerned about MPG loss, but has anyone experienced much with the Falkens?

First off there is almost no reason not to go 265/75/16's.

I was dead set on dong the Goodyear UltraTerrains due to weight (40lbs) and price (~$188/tire) until a mix up at Discount Tire and I switched to Wildpeaks.

I love love love my Wildpeaks, no complaints at all. Rain is no sweat, snow is great, Mpg loss is minimal, noise is no different from stock, and for an everyday tire that looks killer its a no brainer. Go the Wildpeaks.

Aww shit, this thread's about to break out into a rumble over which is better: KO2's vs Everything else. Strap in, shit's about to get wild.

Edit: For the record, I recommend these:

I would suggest comparing all brands and see if they offer a trial period of sorts, along with what warranties/coverage are offered

For example, Toyo's AT3 has a 45 day/500 mile trial period(I believe allows tire return & selecting another brand?), Falken's AT3w has a 30day/1000 mile trial period (allows tire return and selecting another brand), & Cooper's Rugged Treks has a 45 day trial period (however, you can only swap tires within the brand). BFG does offer a 60 day trial period but doesn't give much info on whether you can use that credit towards another brand or within their brand.

Just chiming in on perspectives on the tire search.

I was honest with myself and realized I wasn’t going to be going offroad more than dirt roads and I got these too. I ended up with bigger wheels/tires with overall lighter weight per wheel and tire.

Yup, these will be my next new set of shoes, because I spend about 90% of my time on the pavement; and like you, doing very light off roading down dirt trails. I'm going to get the exact size tire as my stock tires, to keep the weight (and thus the MPG's) the same.

I like that they "look" rugged/aggressive but don't have a lot of road noise. Plus I've always been a fan of the white lettering.

I put these on my Tacoma a year ago in 265/75/16. I couldn't be happier. Good balance of an aggressive tire without any serious negatives.

Goodyear Wrangler UltraTerrain AT | Discount Tire

I have these on my F150. Once again, they've been great.

Toyo Tire Open Country A/T III | Discount Tire

I'm happy with both, but the reason I didn't put the same tire on both vehicles was due to price. At the time of purchase the Goodyear 265/75/16's were much less expensive than the Toyo's in the same size. And when I got ready to buy tires for the Ford the Toyo 265/70/18's were less expensive than the Goodyear's in the same size.
