Not only did we have that section, but your school ID card had to be marked "authorized smoker".
(I remember telling my mom I wanted this on my ID so that I could hang-out with the cool kids.)

The rotary phone in my farm house still has the "Party Code" listed under the phone number... It was a party line until the early 90's...

I wonder how many new viewers will not understand John McClane's line in Die Hard, "This a party line and the neighbors have itchy trigger fingers..."

Remember when people where decent to each other, remember when it was ok to help a stranger without fear of waiting friends, remember when you could drive for miles without seeing anyone else on the road, remember when you could buy whatever you wanted whenever you wanted?

I was twenty-seven at your birth, I'm just old. It's a matter of perspective, mine is skewed.

Growing up in the late 1970s I remember when leisure suites and dingo boots were popular. My dad loved that look. I kept thinking do you really look in the mirror?
I also remember guys getting their ears pierced for the first time and disco. Thank God there was Lynyrd Skynyrd and Rush.
My brother loved Saturday Night Fever, The Bee Gees and Village People. He denies any of that today.

The Bee Gees and SNF were everywhere for about two years.... And they sold LOTS of records. Somebody bought them, and somebody was obviously listening to them. Deniers are liars.

I believe that Fever and the Bee Gees music from that period have aged well, and reflect the time when the music / movie was made, even if the film was based on an article itself which was made up in someone's head... A smile comes to my face when I hear something off the Fever soundtrack (although my mind goes to Airplane! when I hear "Stayin' Alive" rather than Travolta walking down 86th street...). It was, for me, a simpler time.

The Village People? That can go away into a black hole. I blame the Yankees for that... It's been played at every home game since 1996...

My brother was buying their albums. He also denies doing it now. He wore the silk shirts and worshipped John Travolta as well.

I chose to be a part of the "Lost Generation." Just enjoyed getting drunk or stoned with all my long-haired buddies (when we had hair) in the shadows of Kent State and the 60s.
Remember the Punk era and New Wave?
I hated it at the time, but I have to admit there was some good New Wave bands when I listened some years later.
I thought we were seeing the end of rock n roll.

You were not seeing the end of rock n roll. You were seeing the birth of alternative (different) music. There is now much more to choose from, across many genres. It's become a conundrum for radio station owners, because instead of programming for the masses, they need to program to serve their segment and only their segment. It's why radio stations no longer have a 25 share in their market like WABC did in NYC in the early 70's.

Whooooo… Bands like the Ventures and mainstream commercials vs Bootleg Mexican radio stations & Wolfman Jack with those big round tones. He said he always slept with the window open all night to make his voice sound like that.

ZZTop singing about it all 20 years later…

Had mine done at 15, though it was a metalhead thing.

This plus other alternatives in more recent years like MP3 or satellite.

I've always been tapes and now CD, own about 1500 plus.

Though the part about different music..I was talking to someone much younger than me the other day about the different genres of metal now..grindcore, speedcore, sludge, goes on and on. I joked that when I was younger there was rock n roll, hard rock, metal, death metal, and thrash insofar as that family
