Hitch install question

I'm installing my own "towing package" I picked up an aftermarket hitch, and I was wondering if it would be a good idea to use a hydraulic jack to stabilize the rear bumper during install. Any recommendations?

 

im not sure that the bumper needs to be stabilized really, but a floor jack may help you hold the hitch up so you can get the bolts started. does this hitch you bought connect to the bumper also?

 

bumper isn't really all that heavy, having a buddy around to help would do the trick.

 

The hitch uses some of the bolts that attach the bumper to the frame, so you have to remove them and replace them. Thanks for the advice guys, i'm going to have my buddy help me in the morning. I was wondering about the weight of the bumper. I probably will do the floor jack thing to hold the hitch till i get the bolts started

 

I agree with "hernameislucy" all you really need is an extra guy I did it by myself and it was no trouble at all. It's really no all that heavy. Good luck with the instal!

Thats the strategy I think i'm going to use...the install instructions just say to stabilize the bumper, so i'll have a bud "stabilize" it i guess.

 

I got the wiring harness and wired it into the tailights myself this afternoon. I think it was called a T adapter or something like that. It was pretty simple. tomorrow i'll get the actual hardware installed and should be good to go.

 

A friend and I installed my Hidden Hitch a few months ago and it was easy. The extra hands should make the install a breeze. I agree with cjh9980 use the plug and play wiring harness. I used my hitch today for the first time and it worked great.

I figured the $42.50 I paid the guy at Uhaul to install my hitch was money well spent. He ended up taking the bumper completely off and sliding the hitch in from the back.
