Probably could have bought a commercial truck of any type in 2019, and sold it in 2021 for 20k profit.

    I dunno?

    The dealer changes it.

I "invested" in the warranty... It's only $70 an oil change and that way I KNOW it was done right. All 4 washers installed correctly.

    Anyone into crypto?

S&P index from 1999 to 2011 returned ZERO. That's right zero if bought and held for 11 years, excluding possible dividends, but taxes from funds buying/selling. 11 years ! Right around 1100 on the spyders. Now we went through these glorious years of fed stimulus etc. Will it repeat, or will you have 11 years of 0 gain. 10% per year is very optimistic. Given the recent multi year runup and current conditions I wouldn't count on 10%. Maybe -10%.

so that includes the big short, housing crisis, billions in bailout, and the absolute worst financial crisis and sub prime loan debacle of the modern age? Yeah, that’s not flawed logic.

His logic is sound, the market can tank for years He didn’t say it’s the same cause. This time its due to a market that everyone has been saying is way overvalued, now in the middle of increased energy prices due to a decrease in US production of oil, covid related supply bottlenecks and inflation due to fed money dumps and I could go on.
A closer example more related to today of how energy affects the market and the economy as a whole is the 1970’s.

There will never be another black swan LOL. All is fixed and corrected. No more covid, wars, global warming, supply chain issues, etc. Fed has a bottomless pocket for socialism. As long as China buys the debt we are good.

"According to global investment bank Goldman Sachs, 10-year stock market returns have averaged 9.2% over the past 140 years. Between 2010 and 2020, however, the investing firm notes that the S&P 500 has done slightly better than the historic 10-year average, with an annual average return of 13.6% in the past 10 years."

Last 10 years are not repeatable by any means and only good for mailers getting people to buy funds. During 2010 on I remember nobody was bragging, no ads, no commercials, no radio ads , lol.
Read that small print past performance is not .....
Just look at the US deficit. Think Uncle Sam can keep they money printing ?
If you live 140 years to ride it out, all is good.

Queue ‘sequence of returns risk’ and time in the market

we’ve officially gone off the rails. Invest or don’t I don’t care anymore, but if you want to make money over long periods of time you should probably learn the basics of investing and figure out your personal risk tolerances

If any of you clowns think the market is going to remain stable near short term and actualize meaningful gains,

You might want to check back into reality.

right but keep in mind over those five years you would have had to generate “another” 40k to pay off the truck via payments while the invested money wasnt touched.

so its like you need over 80k investment >>

40k dumped immediately into stock market (and left untouched) +43k-ish of car payments over five years to generate these yields.

im all for money making money and agree money sitting idle is ludicrous. just arguing other angle.

getting a hard money loan at 1.9% apr is damn difficult even with awesome credit!

Since cherry picking ranges is kosher now, Average S&P500 gain over the last 10 years was 13.98% - so 40k dumped in 10 years ago would be 148k now! That’s, like, 3.5 Tacomas worth!

    Work in progress...
To be honest, I only get "spending" money so I should not really be so critical. I have no idea what any of that 5 percent at twice the rate of pie over squared even means. I just like putting my 2 cents in, just because it makes me feel important.

Some of this Some of that
Not sure I understand the logic here, I purchased a 2019 f350 dump truck new the same year, It’s now worth more, but new trucks are much more $$.. certainly not 20k more resale value for my truck
