Ok so this may be a shot in the dark but I was wondering if anyone else on here works for CSX Railroad? I'm currently furloughed (freight conductor) and I'm hoping to move from the transportation department to the track department. I'm in the process of getting my Class A CDL right now. With that being said it would be nice to know if there's any other CSX workers out there who frequent this site.

    :D

What does a freight conductor do? Laid off? I thought the railroad industry was doing ok.

I agree, my dad worked for NS for 31 years and retired this past October. He was a conductor.

My father is a CSX Engineer. Been there for over 30 years
My grandfather retired from N/S as an engineer in the late 80's
My uncle is an Engineer with N/S
My great grandfather was an engineer with the Southern Railway and was the engineer of the Southern Railway engine #1401 at the time it was pulling the funeral train for President Franklin Rooselvelt. That engine is now on permanent display at the Smithsonian.

Me, I rolled away from the tree as the railroad is not what it was 30 years ago.
