I was just talking with someone about this. I have been so lucky, I have rode all over the U.S., been several miles deep in the woods, even got stuck in the desert, days from home and have always made it back home.

    From AlabamaWX

NICE WARM-UP TODAY: Temperatures are mostly in the 30-40 degree range across Alabama, but a few colder spots over the eastern counties are in the upper 20s. Look for a high in the 60s today with a partly to mostly sunny sky. Clouds increase tonight ahead of an approaching upper trough.

Rain returns to Alabama tomorrow and tomorrow night; rain amounts of 1/2 to 3/4″ are likely for most communities. A few strong storms are possible near the Gulf Coast… SPC has defined a low end “marginal risk” (level 1/5) of severe thunderstorms for southern Mobile and Baldwin counties, where strong wind gusts are possible.

Lingering showers are possible Wednesday with cloudy sky; the afternoon high will remain in the 60s. Then, Thursday promises to be a nice day with ample sunshine along with a high in the 70s… it will be the warmest day of the week.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: A cold front will bring showers and thunderstorms to Alabama Friday. A strong thunderstorm can’t be ruled out, but for now the severe weather threat looks low with the main dynamic support far to the north. Then, a very nice weekend is ahead with sunny mild days and fair cool nights. Highs will be in the 68-72 degree range for most communities.

NEXT WEEK: Monday will be dry and pleasant, but showers and storms return Tuesday and Tuesday night; too early to know if severe thunderstorms will be an issue with this system. Highs will remain mostly in the 70s… See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

ON THIS DATE IN 1993: Birmingham’s official low was 2 degrees; by far the coldest March temperature on record. It came just after the generational “Blizzard of 93”, which dropped over one foot of snow on the city. At one point over 400,000 people were without power.

ON THIS DATE IN 2008: An EF2 tornado moved through downtown Atlanta, shortly before 10 pm ET, damaging the Georgia Dome where the SEC men’s basketball tournament was underway (Alabama and Mississippi State were playing at the time). The tornado touched down just west of the Georgia World Congress Center, which was heavily damaged. The tornado passed just one hundred yards north of the Dome and turned east-southeast on a six-mile path, lifting near I-20 in DeKalb County.

But the real story was the miracle shot by Mykal Riley of Alabama that sent the game into overtime and kept thousands of fans inside the Georgia Dome. Had the game ended in regulation and had the game not gone into overtime, thousands of fans would have been outside the stadium when the tornado struck. Yet because fans stayed to watch the game in overtime, a tremendous catastrophe was averted.

ON THIS DATE IN 2019: A total of 15 tornadoes touched down across Alabama… most were EF0-EF1 strength. The strongest was an EF-2 that moved through Elmore County, near Holtville.

    Morning!

    From AlabamaWX

WET: An approaching upper trough will bring rain back to Alabama today. Showers are lined up near the Mississippi border early this morning, but the rain will become widespread later today, and periods of rain will continue tonight and tomorrow as the upper air system slowly moves through. A few strong storms are possible near the Gulf Coast today, and over roughly the southern half of the state tomorrow. SPC has defined a “marginal risk” of severe storms for these areas; the main threat will come from strong, gusty winds.

Rain amounts over the next 48 hours will be in the 1/2 to 1 inch range for most of the state, and highs will be in the 60s today and tomorrow. Drier air returns Thursday… with ample sunshine we are forecasting a high in the mid 70s; it will be the warmest day of the week.

FRIDAY: A cold front will bring a band of showers and thunderstorms to the state. SPC has much of South Alabama in a severe weather risk Friday, where instability values will be highest… storms there could produce strong winds and possibly a brief tornado or two. For now the severe weather potential for the northern half of the state doesn’t look especially high. The high Friday will be in the 67-70 degree range.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Dry air returns, and the weekend will feature some delightful spring weather with sunny mild days and fair cool nights. The high Saturday will be in the upper 60s, followed by low 70s Sunday.

NEXT WEEK: Monday will be dry and mild with a high in the 70s, but rain and storms will return by Tuesday night into Wednesday. There could be some severe thunderstorm potential with this system, SPC has defined a severe weather risk for much of the state on their “Day 8” outlook, which includes Tuesday night and early Wednesday. Dry air returns by Thursday and Friday… See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

ON THIS DATE IN 1938: A tornado hit McPaul, Iowa, while moving from southeast to northwest. Another tornado raced through Batesville, Illinois, at 60 to 65 mph. Another tornado causing F4 damage killed 10 and injured 12 in St. Clair County, Missouri. This tornado was part of an outbreak that produced four different tornadoes and was responsible for 11 deaths and 42 injuries.

    Morning

    From AlabamaWX

RADAR CHECK: Showers are developing early this morning ahead of a cold core upper low over Mississippi. Look for occasional showers and a few thunderstorms today as the upper low passes through. It won’t rain all day, and the sun could break out this afternoon in spots over the western side of the state. SPC maintains “marginal risk” (level 1/5) of severe thunderstorms for parts of East and Southeast Alabama this afternoon… stronger storms there could produce hail due to the cold air aloft associated with the upper low.

Showers and storms will end early tonight, and tomorrow promises to be a day, mild day. With a partly sunny sky, temperatures will reach the mid 70s by afternoon. It will be the warmest day of the week.

FRIDAY: We have a complex setup for Alabama Friday. An MCS (mesoscale convective system) is expected to pass through Friday morning; highest severe weather potential is over the southern half of the state, where storms could produce strong winds and a tornado or two. Then, more storms could form along a cold front late Friday afternoon into the evening hours; a few of those storms could be strong, possibly severe with potential for high wind gusts.

SPC has defined a “slight risk” (level 2/5) of severe thunderstorms Friday for areas south of a line from Thomasville to Prattville to Lafayette. North of that line, the rest of the state is in a “marginal risk” (level 1/5).

The high Friday will be in the low to mid 60s over the northern half of the state, with upper 60s for the southern counties.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Look for delightful weather over the weekend with mostly sunny pleasant days and fair cool nights. The high Saturday will be in the mid 60s, and close to 70 Sunday. Lows will be in the 40s, but colder spots will be in the 30s early Sunday morning.

NEXT WEEK: Monday will be dry and mild with a high in the 70s… and most of the day Tuesday should be dry. A vigorous weather system will bring rain and storms late Tuesday night and Wednesday, and there will most likely be potential for severe thunderstorms across most of Alabama. SPC has the far western counties of the state in a severe weather risk in their “Day 7” outlook which runs through early Wednesday morning. It is simply too early to know the magnitude, placement, and timing of the event… just something to watch in coming days. The weather will be dry and pleasant Thursday and Friday… See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

ON THIS DATE IN 1942: A major tornado outbreak was underway across parts of the central and southern U.S….. with a total of 26 significant tornadoes, including five violent ones and 18 killers would cause 148 fatalities from Illinois and Indiana, through Kentucky and Tennessee into Mississippi and Alabama. The Mississippi Delta towns of Itta Bena and Greenwood were hit around 3 p.m. by a family of twisters that killed 63 people. Five automobiles were hurled into the Tallahatchie River near Greenwood, killing six. Two school buses were hit. The hospital at Grenada was missed by just 20 yards, even as doctors and nurses worked on patients from the first big tornado.

Just after 5 p.m., a powerful tornado struck the northern part of Baldwyn, Mississippi, north of Tupelo. The F4 tornado killed five people. Even as rescuers were digging through the rubble of over 50 destroyed homes, a second tornado roared into the town a scant one half hour later. No one died in the second tornado, although it destroyed twenty five percent of the business district. The twin tornadoes that struck Baldwyn were the subject of tornado legend for many years.

In Alabama, a tornado killed a couple at Waterloo in Lauderdale County around 6 p.m. Their bodies were blown over 200 yards.

On another note. Why do companies advertise job openings in one town but are in fact 60 miles away in another? It's ridiculous. I get excited about a possibility then find out no, the company that wants you is over an hour away (no traffic). One dead end after another. This happens over and over. You can't trust where companies say they are anymore. Makes this ongoing 2 year job search very discouraging.

It’s going to be interesting what remote and hybrid employment looks like over the next year and a half. There is always that chance that the position will get changed and not allow you to work remote or hybrid. I know most companies CEO’s are wanting people to return.

i think there will be a bigger shift to remote/hybrid. The younger folks don’t want to come into an office anymore and are leaving good jobs to work at home. I think we will see companies offering it, if possible, to stay competitive.

I just wish companies were honest about where they are located. They advertised Auburn but it's in Montgomery. When I asked them about that their answer was that they weren't familiar with the area... Seriously? I'm not familiar with Chicago but I can look at a map and tell how far away Rockford is. It's 25-30 mins for me to Auburn. Montgomery is 1 hr and 25.
