Why didn't anyone tell me that building a back-half'd crawler was gonna be expensive?! Anyone have a money tree I can borrow?

If I had the ambition, I suppose I could look on the Toyota website. As I said, nice truck, but I wouldn't trade my Tacoma for it.

 

I don't understand why they are so resistant to putting automatic transfer cases in their trucks. The 4Runner has one as an option. The Sequoia has a lock/unlock button for the center diff. It isn't like they don't have the technology.

4-Auto in my F-150 is awesome and not having it makes me less likely to consider a Tundra.

 

You mean Toyota? I don't know, but then again I don't know what the difference is. My daughter's 2000 4Runner had a floor mounted lever to get it into 4WD. At least that's how I recall it.

BTW, a 4Runner is about the only thing I'd trade my Tacoma for. Well, if I didn't need the pick up bed. Which I could probably get by without.

 

Yeah, the new higher end 4Runners have a 2WD, 4WD unlocked (similar to how AWD behaves), and 4WD locked. My F-150 has the same, they just call 4WD Unlocked 4 Auto.

I think the only one who has that on their midsize is GM so I don't fault Toyota for not having it on the Tacoma. But Ram, GM, and Ford all have it on their full sizes so it seems odd that they wouldn't include it on a new Tundra.

 

Its another potential failure point along with additional weight. Ford only offers it in the higher end packages where people concerned about payload aren`t really buying. Also priced higher to `bury` the cost of an additional differential or clutch pack. Its neat, but it is just more shit to break.

Not sure how many of yall are going to the wake/funeral but I unfortunately won't be able to make it. Work is rough and I'm not at the 90 day point until next month :/

On the other side of things the truck is currently averaging 17.5mpg! I drastically changed my driving habits and use cruise control all the time. This is almost 2mpg better than I was getting before.

 

That's about where I'm averaging if I'm not in a rush, but even then it'd only down to 16
