I’m trying to get one of these, but my local dealers are telling me these are only available for fleet sales.

    Is this true?

I’m looking for a really basic beater truck do use at the family farm house.

I don’t need the rear seat, and I like the idea of having the back of the cab used for locking storage.

Lots of guys have purchased the SR "Utility" package. I think your dealer is blowing smoke up your ***.

That’s what I figured. I may have to go up to Sacramento or Roseville.

I agree. I bought one in 2018 but times have changed a lot since then. You will need a KD Max tune as they are miserable to drive. The transmission is horrible.

How terrible is it? I’m replacing a 1992 Toyota pick up which was also a four-cylinder.

most of the utility package SRs are 2wd and make up most of the fleet sales but they do sell a 4x4 model just harder to find.

I would need a 4x4 for the few times I venture to Oregon to see family.

Mine's a 4x4 with an MT. Love it! And I hear great things about the longevity of the Japan built 4 cyl. Fingers crossed those hearings are accurate...

Those utility trucks delete a lot of nice items...intermittent wipers to begin with. Research it.
I just took the seats, back console and those stupid back headrest out. Anybody big enough to need that headrest would never fit back there in a SR anyway. Then I cut a couple pieces of plywood and covered with i/o carpet and then with small bolts attached them to the existing lids over the jack etc. Since those lids just snap in place it's a piece of cake to pop them out when necessary and they fold up still.
To buy Toyota utility panel and do it with their parts...$$$ but you can sell those jumps seats afterwards as well.

Driving into a headwind they downshift in and out constantly. I did not enjoy it. I had a 2001 4 cyl prerunner and it was fine. You can drive one to see what you think. A manual would be fine.

Here's my SR with jump seats out except for back panel. PLUS I made a pvc rod/rifle holder that drops right into the head rest holes. No kids just my dog and she rides front or back.

Is that a build and price from the Toyota website? Have you spoken to a dealer to have allocated?

I went through the same thing for four months and when the dealer called to say they had it but "needed" to add a 6k market adjustment.
