This post never made sense to me. Either you need a truck or a car. Get what you need. If you’re considering getting a Tesla 3 and getting rid of your truck you had something you didn’t need in the first place.

From all the anecdotes that i've read over the years it seems that everyone gets varying MPGs because there are so many variables that go into it. On average the best i'll get is probably 14, i can maybe squeeze out 15 if i drive like a granny but i'd rather not.

Funny enough, for me the Model 3 came first. I hope to pick up my Taco this week.

I have been thinking about this lately, thanks to $6/gal here in Southern California. I have been considering buying a used EV car for about $30k as my DD. My options are use my Taco as DD or buy a used EV as my DD and keep my Taco for the weekend.

For $30k with $6/gal gas, technically I can buy 5000 gallons of gas and with my Taco getting 16 mi/gal, I can drive for 80k miles! I currently drive 10k mi/year, so that means 80k miles will last me for 8 years.

With that, I am keeping my Taco as DD for now and hoping that the gas price will go back to $4/gal :fingerscrossed:

Yeah, you cracked the code. You never actually save money in the grand scheme of it all buying a commuter car.

Best you can do is argue you are keeping road miles off the truck with more expensive offroad tires, etc.

Depends on the commuter car you buy but would agree. I have a first gen and I love not putting miles on it. It also sucks driving everyday.
Love being in a 6 speed, quick, fuel efficient and comfortable DD. Worth it imo.

Buying a Tesla though would be very hard to justify, even with cheap charging once I have solar on my roof. They're like 44k+ now.

Yeah, the "$500 POS Honda commuter" strategy is the exception to the rule. Not like my coworker that tried to make the argument that his new Audi was somehow gonna save him money.

My new commuter gets 60MPG and makes me smile the entire way to and from work. :bikewheelie2:Cost savings be damned.

Fackkkk. That's what I get for waiting.
My friend had one of those situations where he bought his model 3 2 years ago and it can resell for more than he bought it for. Wild times.

Haha that's awesome. I use a Vino 125CC to get around town but I like the comforts of a cockpit on most days. Been debating get a real bike though

According to this from Consumer Reports Tesla is way low on my list for any purpose. Jeep? Haha! Another one one CR's reports showed Gladiator as Jeep's worst.
Number one REAL truck maker...Toyota, by a good margin. I don't consider a Ridgeline a real truck even though many do. :crapstorm:

I'll stick with my 22 Taco and wife's 2019 Forrester. The money I will save in repairs will pay for the gas.

Congrats. I was almost ready to suck up the last one on an M3P, but the most recent one killed it for me. I may drive my paid off Tacoma into the ground. I can afford it, I just don't want to. At that price point a Shelby GT500 makes more sense for me.

I have that situation going on with my Model S Plaid preorder. The price has gone up $17,000 since I ordered it.

Honestly if I could I would have both. Would have the truck for my camping and off-road needs and the Tesla as my daily.

Just different times I guess. Gas was nearly half the price a couple years ago.
