Anyone owned both a newer 4 runner and Tacoma? Does the 2nd row have more room? I would think so... I have 2 children with a 3rd on the way. Taco will be pretty unreasonable I would think.... thoughts??

I own a 21’ 4Runner it has a lot more room in the backseat than a tacoma double cab. Seats also recline and middle seat can be folded down separately.

The back seats in the 4runner are definitely much more roomy.

Do you need a pickup? If the answer is no, then get the 4Runner

See I assumed there was more room in the back but when you look up the specs it says the Tacoma has more "hip room" by like 1"... so I was curious.

    If you have a 3rd on the way get a sienna or a Highlander-not a 4Runner

I see they without a doubt have more leg room. The width is actually a little shorter, albeit slightly.

If you don’t need a truck every day, get something more practical. You are a father of three it is time to take responsibility and provide and protect your family not time to protect your image.

Gotcha - 4Runner is my wife’s vehicle I got a tacoma 5 lug. You should get a tacoma then- however the 4Runner has the superior drivetrain and build quality is stellar

LMFAO. I don't need parental guidance. I already have a Tacoma. I'm trying to decide if it's worth the switch. Sounds like it probably is. Kids are mostly in the van with an occasional trip with dad.

Tundra if you need a truck, Sequoia or Highlander if you need a SUV. A Tacoma or 4Runner might work while the kids are small, but it'll suck when they're bigger.

Between those two, 100% 4Runner. My kids are old enough to fit comfortably in the Tacoma, but I still feel bad sticking them back there.

You didn't say how many kids you will have in a baby seat but I'm going to throw my $.02 worth in anyway. You may definitely be headed for a "bigger back seat" once you have 3 kinds past a baby seat. For me it has made no difference but for my wife, she likes putting our little one in the back of the Tacoma because she can open the door and stay standing up to do everything she needs to do. She doesn't have to bend over. We keep one baby seat in the Tacoma and one in my wifes car. To be honest, she isn't crazy about driving the Tacoma because she has trouble parking it at times, especially indoor garages.

The only reason I'm saying anything is for a couple of years more, maybe the Tacoma will be okay. By the time you "need" another vehicle with a bigger back seat the Tacoma will be paid for and perhaps you can keep it as a third vehicle. For a guy raising a family with the convenience of a truck, I don't see that benefit just going away. Congrats on the family and best wishes whatever you decide.
