I paid cash and signed after making note and getting a we owe from the dealer, promising they would provide all the parts to correct the issues to me to have a trusted body shop take care of them for me, only to turn into we can't do that it has to be replaced in house, and downgraded to arguing with that dealer to get 25% of the issues even considered let alone actually rectified.

So basically Toyota and their lack of quality standards to meet higher production #'s and profit margins can GFY.

Great truck but I didn't intend on buying a new POS that's in worse shape than my 2007 Honda.... I don't take care of things or value things like that, I'm a week in and a day past bringing it home and find a new flaw every time it's daylight. It's unreal the stuff that is scratched or blemished. Most people don't have an issue and wouldn't care, but when it comes down to replacing body panels, fender flares, seat covers etc it's too much and not befitting to the value of the purchase to me to recondition a factory new car under warranty.

Looking at grand cherokee's, they have excellent fit and finish these days and hardly any of these issues, also looking at slightly used sedans, which are in about the same shape visually as this new truck.

Nice truck, Drives great, Does good in the snow, would love to have had a flawless experience and kept it for life, but I'm not about to part out half of an interior or all external plastics to rectify the poor mfg quality standards. That's giving them that free 12% gain in profits and becoming a victim of the world as a consumer.

Like I said, most people wouldn't care, door panel? kick panel scratched from getting in and out? No problem, Seat worn after 40k miles? These things are life and expected to happen. Those types of things don't bug me, especially if I'm the one to do the damage through use and ownership

but pulling apart 1/2 a truck to replace stuff off the delivery truck is beyond my patience, energy or acceptance at this point.

Especially considering the price of these with inflation and the value for what they really are.

$50,000 buys a lot of car,

and even can buy a nearly flawless car still in todays market.

Call it ideological if you will. But I've got to take a stand on this one.

I'm asking how common this really is because you only hear about the failed paint finishes, and considering giving Toyota another chance for my $.

Yea that’s a little much to deal with sad to see where we are headed when they try to pawn off stuff like that at $40,000 and expect you to be ok with it. My 19 is still perfect minus the dings I put on so you know it was better just a few years ago. Hope you get it figured out brother.

The plastic in the new Tacoma’s is very cheesy. Shows every little scuff. Doesn’t clean well. Seen your interior pics, they aren’t scratches, just scuff marks.

Anyways why would you risk it already having a bad experience? More than likely you’ll get one that will peel (karma?) and you’ll still be bitching about interior scuffs and whatever else you will find.

Get the Jeep. Nicer interior which you seem to prefer. Just make sure to trade it in before the base warranty is up, because you will have problems.

The vehicle that I traded in for my Tacoma was a 2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. It was bad on gas, but was a quality truck...and quite honestly was much more truck than my new 2022 SR5. I bought it new and I never had any serious issues...even the A/C worked just fine when I traded it in a few weeks ago. The more I look at my SR5 the more I see a lighter duty truck that Toyota could have done much much better. For example, I'm really bugged by the lack of sufficient wheel wells in the rear, no garage door opener, no blind spot monitor, no automatic rear-view mirror, no power seat, cheap interior, and all the exterior plastic has an inferior orange-peal paint job.

The paint on the rest of my SR5 looks excellent....but so did my 17 year old Sport Trac that sat outside in blazing sun, heavy rain, hail storms, and only a few miles from the ocean. Honestly the paint on my Ford looked perfect from the beginning all the way to when it was traded 17 years later. Same for the interior...it was quality.

I enjoy my new truck, but the mechanical seat with no height adjustment sucks...I already have $64 dollars invested in just trying to raise the darn thing. I do NOT expect my paint to become an issue....but then again I didn't expect my son's Honda to develop severe paint issues either...which it did. Frankly most warranties suck...paint is not a mileage issue but rather time. I don't blame the OP for demanding better...good for him...I hope he finds a vehicle that will serve him well. I hope that I did...time will tell.

Well I can tell you’ve had a long week fuming over this! I was just curious as it’s pretty odd to have a dealership buy back such a new vehicle from a customer unless there are major mechanical issues and it’s been declared a lemon legally. As much as it’s a pain to deal with these imperfections on a new vehicle though, your sample of 1 isn’t exactly enough to declare widespread quality issues within the entire company. My truck was built during the height of lockdowns (Nov. ‘20) and I don’t have a single quality issue on my truck. So from my experience of 1, I’d deduce that Toyota quality is still very high. But I also know you need to really have a sample of thousands to have an idea of any true quality control issues… and seeing as though your circumstances seem to be very rare around here, I have to think yours is an exception to the rule of Toyota quality. Perhaps many of your issues stem from a dealership that simply doesn’t rig their new vehicles with care, or has shitty employees, as opposed to actual Toyota quality issues. Either way, as much as you’re already this unhappy, maybe you ought to just move onto another brand. If you think you are going to get better overall quality with a Grand Cherokee tho, methinks you’re in for a very rude awakening. I sure wouldn’t take a nice fit and finish over all the mechanical issues Jeeps are consistently know for.

My 2016 just hit 100K miles and I’m starting to get paint failure in spots under the hood.

I haven’t heard anyone with a 2018 or new being it up. But not everyone really posts to forums with or without the issue so it’s hard to tell.

and no these are not scuffs. There isn’t a single panel on the interior without some sort of scratch of blemish from mfg.

Not shipping. Not PDI. Or my use. From mfg.

It’s simply unnecessary cost savings on Toyotas part to make more $ and shift the burden on consumers.

I’ve been in a handful of these new this winter and spring now. None as bad as this but all with the signs of their quality shift.

Im honestly looking at other brands now but was going to order in another silver or white OR to take a look at and consider.

I wouldn’t have a problem ignoring all of it. Driving the fk* out of it and not caring at all.

If these were still $37,500 trucks. What they should cost.

for another $50,000 on top of my 50 I could be in a 2016-2018 G Wagon or Range Rover. And actually have some value behind my dollar when it comes to build quality and materials.

I take pride in my stuff. I love taking care of things.

hard to see Toyota go this route to make a few extra % profit.

the ideological basis of kaizen is dying

What do you think a $44,759 truck costs after taxes title tags and fees?

Around $49k. And it’s certainly not worth that much. Taxes are something we pay on everything. Obviously it adds to the cost. Just usually never hear anyone include them when talking about prices of a vehicle. Usually they just talk sticker price. Especially since you could of just traded something in, and in my state only pay the tax difference between the trade in value and the sale price.

I paid 34k (37k in your speak) for my 2017 OR. Barely felt the truck was worthy of that price. Now at least you can get them with leather and a power seat. But it doesn’t justify the added 10k price tag. Even with the safety crap.

My Titan was sticked at almost 61k. But I don’t go around saying it’s a 67k truck. Thankfully I didn’t pay that much. Got employee pricing since I used to work for the dealer, along with 2k off in incentives along with 0% APR. I feel you’re better off in most cases with a fullsized. Better deals to be had. More truck and value for the money. I’m getting almost identical gas mileage with way more power. Taco just didn’t do it for me this time around. To each his own though. A fullsized truck isn’t for everyone obviously.

    Inflation is one thing,

but when you start looking at cost - to - value,

receiving a brand new truck with a bunch of interior defects is pretty disheartening,

now these things will all happen over time, that's life, ownership and use, but paying for a new product only to find toyota cutting corners to make extra profit is pretty unacceptable in my book.

I'm letting corporate walk me through the buy back process and pricing out what it will cost to replace the bigger issues, Fender flares, bumper section, smaller interior panels and seat covers.

Again I have no problem with beating the shit out of a vehicle over it's life, but you should get your moneys value for the cost of what you purchase imo and this isn't it!

There are a few whites on allocation, no silvers currently,

still thinking about ordering one in and comparing it maybe making the switch if they're a lot nicer...

also stopped by the range rover dealership on the way home.. So who knows how this could go.

If you’re looking at range rovers, I’m thinking Tacoma was never right for you. Completely different type of vehicles, clientele, etc. Regardless of anything, get what you want and makes you happy. You’re the one making the payments. If you can do without a truck, then there are probably a lot better choices out there. Hell even a Ridgeline, if you need a truck would probably be a better options in terms of fit and finish, and drivability.

Range Rover; the home of the $400 dollar oil change! Awesome vehicles, but brace yourself for the maintenance and repair costs.
