I mean, even Tesla's that have a similar style door handle as the mechanism on the RSi cap have a whole section in the manual to "forcefully bump the door handle with the bottom of your fist" to break the ice free if the latches are stuck. Pretty conceivable that OP had a similar issue after spraying water directly on the latches in sub zero temps.

That said, I've been in freezing rain/snow/ice conditions many days in the year I've had my top and only had the issue a couple times in certain circumstances. I would say the issue with the latches freezing is different from the locks themselves being stubborn. Everyone should spray their locks down regardless of conditions - they def felt course before hitting them with lock lubrication. Anyone who might suffer from frozen latches should def get the covers.

I know a lot of people are concerned about the freezing locks, but that's less of a concern for me in the maritime PNW. Has anyone found a replacement lock that would allow them to be opened from inside the canopy or have reliable intel from RSI on an update to the locks? For my use case, that's my primary concern and what keeps me from purchasing.

I think it’s more the keys then locks (being stubborn)- like you said that was the first thing I did, work my 2 main keys and it’s definitely made the process easy/smoother. puff some graphite in and good to go

The covers keep dirt, water and sand out. Ice I haven’t tested yet.

    Gonna quote myself here...
Did some digging online last night and found these comments embedded in the comments section of unrelated Facebook posts.

Looks like a little bit different of a story between a month ago and last week, but maybe that's attributable different people handling the social media.

All I reached out to RSI to get an update on the locks and below is what I got from them.

"Unfortunately, I don't have good news for you as the locks have once again been delayed further with no new ETA being provided as yet. I know this is not the news you want to hear but all I can provide at this point in time. "

Have had the cap on since Nov’21 but hadn’t posted, here’s a few shots. It arrived a little damaged but nothing major I couldn’t fix and was to impatient. But loving it so far.

Make sure you put in a warranty claim on that regardless To protect you. If there is ever a leak or structural failure because of that then you'll be covered. Thier good people and stand behind their products.

Hoping to get some load bars on the next shipment. Has anyone had any luck using other manufacturers bars for the SmartCap?

Straight from Frontrunner: "The RSI Double Cab Smart Canopy Load Bar Kit / 1165mm (KRCA009) can take up to 100kg (220lbs) evenly dispersed over 2 load bars."

This does not specify static or dynamic loading, but dynamic would be my best guess. I would contact them directly to ensure your load is properly supported.

Great idea! Called them and they said that was the static weight. I clarified by asking if it could hold a tent and 2 adults and he said "theoretically, no".

That’s good to know info. Two sets would disperse the weight of a RTT, two American sized adults and a small dog.
