I saw the video and had to think on it.

It appears that his problem was not bad strategy or bad recovery point etc, but rather bad spotting.

He was pulling with a winch from the rear on a solid recovery point.....the failure was not in the recovery point but instead due to the wheels/axle/differential staying put and the force being applied to the weak part (ubolts). It should have been caught by the spotter and damage minimized.

I would rather just come in on this old thread over making a new one so actually used a receiver and bow shackle to pull someone out of a situation? I would love to hear peoples knowledge of this before I buy my own gear. I see tons of tacomas on this forum with agency6, factor55, rhinousa, and so on.

I am set on the agency6 receiver and shackle but I want to hear what you all have to toss my way.

Sometimes it can’t be avoided, but most damage is done jerking a vehicle with a solid strap or chains. There’s a good chance something is getting bent or broken.

I recommend having a section of kinetic rope to minimize instantaneous shock.

I ended up buying a shackle that fits the tow receiver and the ARB recovery strap. Haven't used it yet, but should work for most situations I might find myself in.

I've used this one for a handful of pulls, with an ARB snatch strap. The included shackle is also 13,000LB WLL, to match the hitch.

I think most of mine is just for desert sand when my friends get a bit stuck since theirs are all 2x4s. But then again I have traction boards and all. I wont find myself or friends bogged down in deep mud or something like that where it would be stupid to use a strap to recover.
