For those of you who are interested. The DABC is having their auction for the “Rare High Demand Products” a.k.a. Pappy Van Winkle drawing. :drunk:

I’m no longer back in the homeland anymore, but I’d be really curious if Eagle Rare 17 is on the auction block. It’s been my Moby Dick for years now with no luck.

Apparently, here in Colorado, you have to be a ‘valued customer’ (raging alcoholic?) at a major store to even get a chance at the bucket list whiskeys.

    It is. Fingers crossed.
Thanks @H3llRid3r for the heads up. For some reason I didn't get email notified about this one.

Do any of you have recommendations on trailer camping around Moab in August? It's a small 16' Casita slightly lifted but clearance is still an issue. We're planning to use the trailer as home base and soak up some Arches and Canyonland. 50 year old east-coast moab virgin so there's a lot I don't know.

It appears that the National Park campgrounds are either first-come first-served (I'd like to have a back-up plan) OR are already reserved 6 months in advance.

How can you possibly justify leaving Zion? How do you plan to make it heaven?

Yes, the elusive Eagle 17 is on the auction block.

Yeah, I wasn’t notified either. I came across it by accident.

I was a Gentile living among the Chosen growing up in Southern Utah, so I was never destined for the Celestial Kingdom anyway

It certainly never stopped me from dating lots of gorgeous Mormon girls, tho :D I still maintain that Utah has a conspicuously high concentration of hot chicks per capita relative to other places I’ve lived. Must be all of the clean living and chastity

ETA: I will always be a U of U fan regardless of where I live. Nothing but scorn and derision for BYU here, especially after growing up around so many damn Cougar fans.

yeah, the NP campgrounds are either FCFS (and they're almost always full) or they're reservation based on recreation.gov but not all of them area like that. If you're looking for some more dispersed camping options (ie, no hookups, etc.) then there are TONS of options on BLM land. I've seen massive fifth wheels make it along all the BLM stuff so you'll be able to find anything. check out the blm website and their maps. Most common areas are Willow springs road (blm 378) and really, anything north of that. any of the other commons spots are a little harder to describe or harder to get to. :)

If you need thigns like hookups there is a Moab KOA that you could probably potentially snag. :)

hah! well....try visiting Arizona then. combination of mormons, hot temperatures all the time so they're always in good shape. yeah...

Thank you. I'll read more about the BLM offerings. I briefly stumbled over some info .. does BLM camping also require a permit / reservation? I found something on Recreation.gov that seemed to offer reservations 4 months in advance and they seemed to be gobbled up quickly when available. We don't need hookups and don't need to run a genset (we can easily go a few days without visiting a dump station.)

Word has it that Willow Springs is getting paved and either FCFS or reservation, I forget. Got loved to death, and now we can't have nice things. Saw an announcement from I forget where a couple weeks back.

Edit: Looking for the source so I can share it

I'm trying to find where I saw it cuz it came from or was confirmed by someone who's in the know on a lot of it, and now I can't find it, so take what I just said with a grain of salt until I can find it.

    No worries!

Even if it’s not happening there, it’s a crappy trend happening in more and more places.

You put it perfectly: We’re loving these amazing places to death :(

Alright guys, don’t be to mean but I had to sell my Taco when we had some family medical expenses come up a couple years back. After some time we picked up an 08 4Runner Sport. I put slightly larger tires on and a Toytec lift. Anyway, long story short, we are going down to St. George in may with some extended family and they want to do some wheeling. I’ve never driven Sand Hollow or the surrounding area and I’m wondering if anyone knows what simple trails would be worth doing? I don’t have lockers or a winch. Keep in mind, I have to drive back to Salt Lake after so I’m not to inclined to break anything on this go around haha.

Side note: I’m on Tacomaworld asking you all because it’s 100 times better than the 4Runner Forum.

You could take the water tower trail in Sand Hollow all the way to the top of the world overlook. Just keep heading South on Sand Hollow Road until you hit dirt, then the water tower... then just go cruise around. Mostly driving in the dunes with out having to go through the actual park. But you may or may not still get harassed about a flag if you don't have one. Some rocky bits here and there, but it's easy. I do it all the time cause I live down the road. You could take a trip up to Toquerville falls too. The road is rough enough to make it a kinda fun adventure if you've never been. Could also divert to the radio towers from the Toqerville falls road.

Just be very careful if you decide to check out the trails beyond the Toquerville towers. It’s been years since I got myself in trouble up there, but it was sketchy AF, and not something I’d ever want to repeat. Best to just turn around at the towers, or hike up to the top of the ridge if you want to check it out.

For sure! Plenty of sketchy recoveries beyond the towers! That's some steep and loose terrain. I don't go past there either.
