That’s exactly what I do. Use the tacoma 4x4 for camping and general truck needs but my model 3 for daily drive since free to drive due to solar.

Sdge has one of the highest rates in the country. I put a large system in 6 years ago after I started getting 700/month bills because I dared use my air conditioning. Haven’t payed a cent to them since including 10,000 miles a year on my 3.

My neighbor had a Tacoma, then a Raptor, then a model 3. I thought the Raptor was fast until I drove the Tesla. It's also the only one fully made in America. If I had need for a second car, I'd buy one. As much as I have loved burning gas in all sorts of cars, motorcycles, boats and planes I'm fine with the direction things are going. We'll incrementally see more charging stations available, more range, more acceptance across the board. I love history and to put things in perspective, 120 years ago the internal combustion engine was underpowered, fuel was difficult to come by and of poor quality and the roads were so bad the Army took over a month to move trucks across the country as an expedition. At that point, it was beyond anyone's imagination that there would be superhighways, massive 1000' tankers of fuel moving around the globe to supply 600hp truckloads of fuel to convenience stations with 30+pumps on every corner to supply everyday cars on the road pushing 200+hp. Again, I have loved burning gas, I'm probably one of few people under the age of 75 who can set points and adjust valves but the future is coming whether you like it or not. The majority of drivers look at cars like they are appliances and they will be buying electric.

    You have 44 panels!?
How many kW is the whole system though? Now panels are at 400W each, so maybe 10 years ago you needed more.

Yeah my first bill was 380, and its a 1500sqft house, 2 inhabitants, we had heater on very low a few nights and it wrecked us. When you compare how much you pay a month for solar versus what you give SDGE, its a no brainer. Wish I had the $ for a Tesla to really take greater advantage of the panels I'm getting. Will come with time though. It will be nice actually living in my house without having to be so careful about when I use the washer, when I turn on a little heat or ac.
My neighbors first bill was 580 and he has double pane windows etc. He was heating 24/7. New bill with panel (he showed me) $50.

Also, theres so much value to not driving the truck everyday. My truck is heavily modified and it gets annoying quicky.
The more modified, the more maintenance, the costlier the maintenance and you're putting miles on a uniquely modified vehicle that was modified for 1 purpose. It's burning money in so many ways. When I get into my DD (bought for 14k, 40+mpg highway)its a whole different world. 6 speed, peppy, comfy, no stress from driving massive overbuilt truck to daily drive. Its worth it for the mental health as well lol. When I take the truck out to stretch its legs around town in between trips its like "ah this is nice".

I'd love to get a ford transit van to haul crap for the house, would chose that over a pick up any day for utility.

My guy - I'm a fan of the "you do you" approach, but you have asked for an opinion so I'll give it ya.

Hard day at work, come home, throw my gear in the back of my dope truck - find an old unmaintained logging road with a sick lake at the top - 4x4 go brrr, campfire go crackle, boat go brr, fishing rod goes zzzzzz - and the world is a good place. As of yet, Tesla can't do any of that.

Luckily, he may or may not know of a manufacturer that IS building an EV that does exactly that.

Yup, thats why I said at the end right now Tesla can't do that for me. I'm seeing alot of cool stuff coming out for electric trucks, the F150 lightning is something to keep an eye on. But for now, truck go brrrr.

If he had mentioned en electric pick up truck, I wouldn't have said anything.

They determine the gas prices too, among many other things. Commodities market trading is all AI terminals and burnt out 24 year olds that got swindled by tales like Wolf of Wall Street.

The worst part is as it becomes more mandatory the government's gonna want their chunk. We're seeing that now with the oil industry. It's crazy

Another thing to keep in mind, if you run your ev off a large rooftop solar system, currently the power you generate is tax free. If I fill my taco with 6 dollar regular and the bill is 120, I actually have to earn 30% more, pay federal and state taxes, then pay the fuel bill. Same with electric bill. So for socal , where weather generally sunny and warm, ev and solar makes a lot of sense
