Or just put some flex seal in there.

So my 130,000 mile old man emu leaf packs aren’t up to the chore of carrying my fat ass truck. I have the Timbren load bearing bump stops and the truck sits solidly on those. It has very little up travel. .

I was going to replace the OMEs with a set of Alcans custom leaf packs but a dental detour (I had 2 implants fail and become infected, they’ve been removed, cadaver bone was placed, new implants go in March 7th…super super expensive) is putting that on hold.
but I have my own imojis.

I decided in the meantime I’ll make a bastard pack with some junkyard leaf springs.

I got some 2.5” wide leaves from a GMC Sierra pick up. (Yes, a 63” swap
was tempting but I’m looking for load carrying more than flex and a 63 swap is a bit more than I want to deal with.

I cut up the Chevy spring and replaced 3 of the old man emu springs with 2 of the chevys.

The truck sits 4.5” higher than before. Way too high. And the driveline vibes are pretty bad.

Next I’m going to remove one of the Chevy springs and see how that works out.

besides the driveline vibration the ride is much much smoother and there’s a lot Less body roll on the corners.8AF1504F-C110-4301-B849-1F276749979A.jpg
It’s so tall in the back the camper stairs don’t really work 39B10117-BD56-41D7-B13E-379391A58502.jpg

Ever consider going airbags with your ever changing load? Or do you feel the campers weight is relatively consistent at this point?

I have considered airbag. The load is inconsistant in that it's slowly creeping up as a I finish things. Lol.
All thats left is the ceiling and rear shelf area and a couple other small things. That's maybe another 50 pounds.

After that it'll only flucuate based on gasoline, food water and beer.

I would guess going from wet to dry would be about a 300 pound differance. But that's loaded to max capacity with supplies for a long trip. For weekend stuff I only brinkg about a 150 pounds differance.

    FUCK!
I’m so close to being done.
I started this thing in November and I just cut a giant hole through the screen and the clearly vinyl window.

I think I’m going to patch the clear and sew the slice in the mesh together with thin light gray thread for now and make a better fix later.

That camper's heavy. Good job removing some extra weight and unnecessary material from the wheels!

It’s not as heavy as I thought it would be. Just over 17 pounds.

Some fresh bushings for the font lower shocks.

Driver’s side bushing well was on its way to being totally shot.
