62 isn't bad, though I've started going more like 65-68 because 1000 mile long slogs down to Death Valley are just getting on my nerves.

That said, I just had to do the entire trip back from DV at 50mph as I mentioned in the Wyoming thread (below). Where I usually - at 65mph - get 16-17, at 50mph, I got 21.5mpg - avg over 2+ tanks, and the full 1000 miles. Quite a jump (20%), but totally not worth it.

I'm surprised you haven't figured out how to just leave your truck in DV all winter at this point.

That was the plan for this year, but with omicron in the middle of winter, I didn’t want to be flying back-and-forth every 10 days.

Next year, I already know where I will be leaving it between trips. (In Vegas, Which has a very nice side benefit of cheap flights in and out.)

What's your repair plan, shop space large enough for work there?

There’s room to do a little bit of minor work there, things like ball joints or oil changes, but not a full shop.

The plan would be to get it in really decent shape prior to the first trip down in November, and hopefully not have any major problems, but if I did, I’d have to drive it home to fix it, or find a shop down there.

No different than today, from that perspective.

Doesn't save much on overall limping trip length home but you've got a place here to stop and do stuff if you need

The cost savings between 14mpg and 17mpg are pretty negligible aren't they? Like $0.05 a mile? Savings is 2hrs to get to DVNP.

Thanks! Just some Meguiars apc, pressure washed and then light spray down of meguiars hyper dressing. I bought the truck a year ago, and have been doing a lot to get it back in good shape.

2000 Tacoma, Xtra cab, V6, 5sp. Has a canopy, but otherwise 100% stock. Live in Redmond and commute to Prineville daily, with 3 or 4 trips to Bend weekly. I'm lucky to get 17/18 mpg. Always interesting to hear that others seem to get better mileage than I do.

I've got the manual 2.7, 03, nothing in the bed most of the time. I commute from Bend to RDM for work these days

We probably pass each other going opposite directions on 97 on a regular basis then.

Complete opposite. GX470 almost every day. 12 mpg if I'm lucky...

    yikes!!

....gonna pull the Blizzaks off of MFP this weekend and install the P-Zeros, as it appears Spring has sprung in Central Oregon. My MPG will drop a MPG or 2 (but the turns will be more fun)

Blizzaks are gonna stay on for a few more weeks on my end. Would not be surprised if we get an early spring snow in the coming week(s).

As for "what I did to mt Tacoma today"? Tried to replace the struts on my canopy, but must have ordered the wrong ones. Just not long enough...

I've got Wildpeaks on the tacoma for winter stuff that might linger. The do well in the ice/snow but 'let loose' a bit early out on the gravel roads out east. I might reserve them for winter stuff and go back to my usual 10 Ply Dynapro pizza cutters for summer fun.

........and as for your door struts, ditch the canopy and your issue are over!
