It's really not that bad if you are looking for a service pistol with a known or semi known use by the US Military

You're not going to find a definite gov 1911 for anywhere close to that

Nice collection of old steel. You can't go wrong with a JMB design. None of mine are all that old, but here they are, along with a 1903 Pocket Hammerless from 1944, and a BHP from 1995. 6 guns, 6 different cartridges. The 1911's are a RIA GI in .38 Super, a SA A1 in .45 Auto, a Ruger SR 1911 in 10mm Auto, and a SA EMP4 in 9x19mm. The Colt is .32 Auto, and the BHP is .40S&W.

My CMP sequence number came up in Late September, I think. Opted for a Field Grade. I carried a 1911A1 until we swapped to the M9s in the mid 80s...and hated the M9. I was hoping to get something like I carried back then, and did. Lots of folks seem unhappy if they get a mixmaster...but I love mine. A '44 Remington Rand frame with a Korean War contract Colt replacement slide and replacement barrel. Still shoots like a champ...and not bad for 66 year old shooter at 25 yards.

    RRC1.jpg RRC2.jpg 244477408_10222923376967684_102550324165935356_n.jpg 244741058_10222923376927683_4138085634929313115_n.jpg

If you get one, recommend you get at least a replacement recoil spring. Mine was ejecting in a strange pattern - just needed a new spring to clean it up. I actually found someone on eBay selling NOS Army replacement springs. Score!

    a fine weapon.

the 'idiot mark' is the scratch from the mag release during installation. It's no big deal

There's a number of ways to tell from what I've understood including the serial number stamping and the actual serial number as there was no RR and Ithaca overlap

Colt and Ithaca had a couple of overlapping serial numbers

    Oh I plan to

The stories this thing could tell

One of my employees at my shop snagged a WW1 Colt a few months back one day while I wasn't there

Fantastic gun and well loved but in great shape considering its over 100 years old

I've got a 1913 1911, sweet hunk of History. I build replica 1911A1s these days, mostly all surplus parts a'top a Caspian 'classic' frame. The frame makings but the serial number are fake

Awesome pistol!! Congrats!! I would grab a recoil spring - odds are yours will need to be replaced. These pistols have been sitting for years, in most cases, and a fresh spring will give the pistol new life.

The idiot mark comes from a clumsy insertion of the slide stop during re-assembly.

You are correct. Col Frank J. Atwood was the ordnance inspector for both Remington Rand and Ithaca from 1942-46.
