I recently bought a taco, now my brother in law wants one so I am helping him find a new one. Just called 8 local dealers and 2 of them had told me that Toyota is putting tacomas on hold for a few months. I also would like to state that none of them had a single Tacoma on the lot and most of the ones that were being built had deposits on them. Now I know that they said they were cutting production a bit but to completely stop making a specific type? Anyone else heard news about this?

Never trust people on the internet who tell you to never trust things. I’m not asking for people to bash on dealerships. I am asking if anyone else has heard anything about this because I highly doubt I am the first/only person to have heard this.

There was an article in auto news that was taking about Toyota slashing production because of chip shortages. They didn't specify which vehicles were affected specifically. Its possible Tacomas could loose production, time will tell I guess.

Read this about neon gas this morning. Apparently chip makers need this for their chip production. According to the article, the Ukraine invasion will halt about half the global production.

I imagine car makers are adjusting their production schedules according to parts availability. This sounds like the current chip shortage may get even worse in the near term.

Reuters and MSN have confirmed it. Last Tacoma rolled off the line this morning. That’s it fellas. Toyota says there’s no market for new pickups as the station wagon trend catches fire.

Production is still hurting a little from the chip shortage, and Toyota (or one of its vendors) got hacked recently which I believe shut down production for a few days. Not sure what models that affected though.

I'm in Alabama for work at the moment and a dealership I passed here was pretty well stocked. Saw about 10 Tacomas and 3 or 4 new Tundras on the lot.

I've honestly never really kept up with new vehicle production numbers or news, but it is interesting that paying customers are having a hard time being able to put a deposit on a vehicle and actually get it. That being said, I've seen a few posts around here encouraging to call around, find out delivery dates for each dealership, call them weekly to see what they get in, and hope for the best. Really seems like some dealers are selling out from under folks who actually have deposits down, just to move it as soon as possible. So I don't know if its a game of whoever willing to pay the most gets it, first come first serve, or what. All I know is I'm blown away by the prices people are paying (for new AND used). Good luck!

It seems that the car market is a bit crazier up in the northeast where I am. Most dealerships in a 6 hour drive radius are wiped out with maybe a dozen or so vehicles left. Down south is better but not really looking to drive 13 hours for a truck.

    Oh look, another mod....
I was going to care about this thread, then I realized I already owned a Tacoma. I think I'll go outside and stare at it and take in just how awesome it is, and what a great deal I got on it.

I work at a boat dealership. I imagine the auto industry is in the same crunch as we are. The supply chain is still a mess. Chinas covid 0 policy is making electronic parts even harder to get. Everything added up means producing things right now is a slow dragging process. Be patient, keep your eyes peeled, you'll find one

Good to hear from someone who actually knows. People talk about this mineral being hard to mine, this plant being shutdown for a hack, etc... but that's all short-term stuff. It seems like the real problem is that China can't admit that Sinovac is garbage (+ older Chinese do not trust the vaccine), so they're instead using renewed lockdowns. So factories can't stay open, production is limited by social distancing, etc.

This won't end anytime soon. We're just all going to have to be grateful finding what we want and getting it at MSRP. Sad state of the world.

Seems like a good case to bring back domestic production on a lot of these things
