I can’t imagine nearly $7 a gallon. That’s what it is back in the Micronesian islands where my wife is from as well. It’s nice being in a State with one of the best economies in the nation. :) It’s $3 something for 10% Ethanol 87, and nearly 4 (I’m sure it’ll pass that) for Ethanol free 87. Over $4 for the 91 I put in the bike.

I’ve heard phenomenal things about the Cummings diesels for sure! Hope it helps future homies. But I’m going to stay gasser as I don’t have any heavy towing to do. Thank you for your input!

Yeah not fond of the prices here! And actually I should have a clarified…….the PW comes with the 6.4 gasser! Dropping my bulletproofed 6.0……here on the “left” coast, unless you’re making a living with it, diesel just doesn’t make any sense!

It’s for heavy hauling farmers and young rowdy loud aspiring diesel mechanics here.

Buddy was selling a 65 Chevy and man did I want it! But for no reason other than my dad taught me to drive in an old Chevy and is a Chevy man.

I almost got him a Tundra this go around to see his face we upgraded his 2002 Work Truck to a 2013 Work Truck and he’s as happy as can be. Us men always are with simple things :)

Ugly. 1959, 3/4 tone, I6, oil bath air cleaner, no engine oil filter, split rims, 4 spd/granny, floor pedal start, add on turn signals, 4 drum brakes, ebrake was a floor lever that clamped the front part of the 2 piece drive shaft. Roll up windows, vent windows, floor vents all rocking to an AM radio. Included was GM's finest enamel paint.

The clutch and brake rods went down through the floor, so if you hit water about 12" deep with any speed, you'd have a gyser up through those holes and your pants leg/shoes, washing out the floor of the cab.

But it was a reliable work truck. And you could open the hood and know what everything was.

I wouldn't touch one with a ten foot pole. Most of the guys I know who had one, including a neighbor up the road, have had a few issues with them. I've read their DEF system has a few flaws also.

that's good to know. i have no personal experience with them. they did/do make a gas version pf the XD too though - maybe that would be more reliable. i think the nissan 5.6 V8 is has been around a while and most kinks have been worked out

Old ‘59 GMC was the truck I learned to drive in. Many fond memories in that truck. Passed from me to my dad and back from before I was born to into my 20s. I was pretty sad when I came home from the Marines on one of my leaves and saw my Pops had sold it. Man that was over a decade ago. Where does time go!?

theres a regular titan and there's an XD. the XD is not fully a "heavy duty" truck but has some frame reinforcements and other stuff (cant remember what) to make it a little more heavy duty than the base model

    You right.

One thing I’m finding, especially with the Fords I’ve looked at in town, but I’m sure with all trucks, is you have to watch the options.

Payload for any given model, engine, drivetrain, body/bed, etc is given online.

But if you look at three trucks at the sticker in the door I’ve found 350/3500 with a payload around only 1800-1900 because of all the crap on the truck already.

I’m a basic kind to go so going for as little as possible; but check the door sticker payload if you’re in the market. Changes a lot from “identical” models on the lot.

We used to own a construction company, pickups with an 8’ bed are kinda useless. 12 or 14’ flatbeds are so much easier to load. Yeah those Fuso’s are cool, dirt bike buddy of mine has a box version for camping and hauling bikes…he laughs at the Sprinter guys, unfortunately they pulled out of the US market

Oh I know…warranties don’t make a vehicle more reliable, it does lessen the worry that you’ll have to work on it. And trade it in before it start giving you headaches. Bought used for decades, tired of fixing them. Sure my 1st Gen Taco has 434K miles on it, also took a lot of repairs along the way to get it there. My ‘85 4Runner had the original engine go out at 125K and the 22R is supposed to be one of their best engines. The replacement engine had the main bearings fail at 100K. Just because it is perceived as reliable doesn’t mean it is.

Threads like these is only going to get you anecdotal evidence, and not any real data on which vehicle will have the least amount of repairs over the course of 300-400K miles. Each vehicle is different and how it is treated varies wildly. Ford guys will recommend Ford, Chevy…Chevy…and so on. Me…we have owned them all, and they are all crap.;)

good point. i'm sort of looking for the same thing as you right now so this is a cool thread.
i dont care for/ or want any frills. safety is important to me because i will have my family in the truck - but otherwise, i wouldnt care if the thing had crank windows.

They certainly are all crap. Hence the research for the lowest statistical probability of issues. There will be issues. Inevitably. And you can always get a lemon, absolutely. But at the end of the day I still want to do my due diligence and know I had better odds rather than worse odds. Thanks for your insights!

I’ll likely buy an 8’ bed model and eventually build a custom flatbed on it.

Would love to find a Fuso Canter 4x4 with a Chevy gasser engine and build out a camper to live in full time. Unfortunately they don’t do Stateside with the good stuff.

I’m reading that families like the Chevy more for the better ride, but the Ford can take a little more heavy work. I don’t need it to be beat to death, just carry a few thousand pounds around the country, so I’m starting to lean toward the Chevy. The engines are certainly easy to find if you ever need another one.

I actually strongly prefer the older 2014 and earlier body style, but if a newer one pops up I’ll consider it.
