Pretty much spot on, and unfortunately.. that's why we do our own thing. Lol. It used to be much better before the Overland thing really took off. It was much more enjoyable and easier to access when it was at the old location (Mormon Lake). Less people, Less show-y.. idk it definitely isn't the same. But.. that's why we camp away from the Expo. I've never paid for camping there.. nor will I.
Then we just convoy in and go in together. Maybe take one or two trucks and leave the others at camp, etc. We can absolutely find camping in th area for a group.

I should add, what I did get out of going was a chance to see all the products I was considering while upgrading my vehicle, as well as 10% or 20% off the things I did buy (GoTrax, MountainHatch, cool Kovea stove) so that's a consideration.

oh definitely. I'm not saying dont go or its not worth it. We usually try and go Sunday.. and grab last minute cash deals when Vendors dont want to take their stuff back home with them. I've scored a lot of my gear over the years up there that way.

I hate repeat posts/questions, but i also hate going through 300 pages to find something.

I was wondering what awning some of you chose to get and if you used the SP awning brackets? I have the brackets coming as part of the entire set up. I was considering just buying an awning now, so when i drive from ohio to Seattle, i can do some installs of my own after the camper is put on. Sort of hit the ground running.
I like the idea of the batwing/270 degree awning. Buy also like the awning feom arb that can double as a screened in porch.

That looks great. And its still able to cover the back hatch? My imagination isn't allowing my mind to see how.

I plan to figure it out! otherwise there will be a Peregrine for sale.. lol

The height of the awning brackets and everything might be the issue. I wont know until I just get it all and try fitting.

I bought a 48” awning and bug room from CVT and mounted it on the back. My plan was to cut the bug room fabric in front of the tailgate and rear hatch in a way that created a bug free extension. Attach with Velcro.

First of all, the brackets mount the awning about 2 or 3 " above the roof, so it’ll raise your overall height. This is so that the awning is high enough to stand under, and so that it doesn’t interfere with the open hatch(s). Second, the awning front side sits about 8-10” from the top of the rear hatch, making attaching the bug room problematic. Attaching the fabric to the SP would pull the fabric in a way that would raise the bottom and let in the little buggies. I haven’t cut the fabric yet so I may sew on additional fabric to make it fit right. Etc etc etc. Last but not least, 48” isn’t wide enough in low sun to do much of anything. Chasing a small shadow most of the time this winter. On the other hand, I can lower the outside end of the awning if the sun is behind me, which you can’t do on a 270. FWIW.

I believe SP would need to sign on/pay to be an approved vendor.

Absolutely love my OVS Nomadic 270 LT. Based on my research, it's about the cheapest, truly freestanding 270s out there. I used 3 SP mounts, but it might have been overkill. 2 probably would have been fine. Make sure you have two people to mount it and feel free to reach out if you need a hand. I'm 15 minutes from SP and would be happy to help.

Doesn't the awning interfere with the tent handle? I actually wanted a 180 or normal square awning on the back, but read that the latches and handles got in the way. Anyway, that's why I ended up going with a 270.

From what I've gathered, they are all hands on deck for production, etc and don't have the headcount or bandwidth to have someone on TW super frequently. They do read up on stuff every so often, but no real opportunity for online curation at this time.

Maybe @Synergy001 could update post 1 with some FAQ or something.

Yes, it interfered with the tent handle, but not the latches. I replaced the handle with a low profile cheapie from Ace. Interestingly I had a hard time finding one that was low enough and wouldn't bend when pulled.

Good to know ahead of time. Can you take a photo of the difference? Like, hold the old one next to the new please? I can forge a new handle at home and coat it ahead of time.
